Map Concept: 3v3v3

AATTRROOXX··31 votes·3,172 views

I've had an idea for a three way map that would allow for interesting gameplay.

Key:

 • = tower square = inhibitor circle = nexus black = edge and jungle walls green = brush yellow = neutral monster

(this is just a rough sketch because I suck at drawing)

The gameplay on this map would allowhave three teams of three fighting to destroy both of the other teams nexuses (nexi?). Teaming, trust, backstabbing, and other mind games would make for very interesting gameplay. My idea is to have the map set in Icathia (partially due to its symbol) so that it can tie up the lore between the void and Valoran. As for the jungle I want to use the wolves and raptors for each jungle third, but Im not sure what type of monster should inhabit the center. Any ideas are welcomed.

I hope you liked my map, and I would love to hear feedback or comments you have.

EDIT: After some thought, making it so the first team to destroy any nexus wins. This would solve a lot of issues, and make gameplay very risk reward.

I think 3-way maps should be about objectives and not base-killing. The whole idea of losing because you get ganged up on is really annoying.

The idea behind this three way map is to really make people unsure, and to play lots of mind games. Say blue is teamed with pink, but blue has more kills and CS, pink may decide to team with red and stop blue. Making alliances and never knowing what will happen is a part of the fun.

You might think that's fun, but in my experience 3-way FFAs have a tendency to have 2 teams arbitrarily decide to destroy the 3rd player before duking it out for the win. There is no real strategy most of the time, the 3rd player just gets screwed.

I've been thinking on this for a while, maybe the team team to take any nexus, and only 1 will win the game. This would solve ganging up as one team may steal the nexus, and would make team defense a possibility. (this will be an edit in a moment)

I was thinking something along the lines of the point based ascension gamemode but with three teams

A 3 vs 3 vs 3 will simply not work if the objective is to destroy the Nexus, because there is a chance of the game becoming 3 vs 6, and that will generate a lot of frustration which will be soaked up by the Boards. It might work if the mode was about capturing objectives for point, and the winner is decided by being the first to reach a certain amount of points.

That sounds like something similar to SIns of a Dark Ages Duel mode. The first team to either defeat x amount of creeper, push to the nexus, or get x amount of kills win. Since there's three teams of three, something a bit more dynamic would be great. I like the way the quests work in Dominion, but instead of putting the focus on capturing points, it could be to kill an x amount of a specific type of creep or to collect a number of an item that appears around the map to help complete the quest.

I like this idea. It's really cool. My one major complaint is that it would be too easy for one team to get 2v1'd. I know the "first Nexus destroyed wins" thing is supposed to counter that idea, but it would be too easy to team on one group until Nexus is exposed, and have a teamfight at that point to see who wins. A larger jungle would be nice as well. Champ select would be interesting (bans? pick order? pure blind pick?). Summoners and champions would need some balancing. Lastly in my group of statements with no specific point, the big jungle boss should be a gorilla. I don't know why.

Thanks for all the feedback. :D I will adress each idea in order.

 1. Teams 2v1ing would have the extreme risk of being picked off before they reach the nexus, who last hits the nexus, and the chance that the other team would get stronger based on which lane they decide to go in. (who's inhibitor is taken?)
 2. I think a larger jungle would be a great idea, the current jungle is just a concept based on how large the SR jungle's pathways are compared to each lane.
 3. I realize that Rito would need to make a custom champ select and loading screen for this map. Otherwise I'd say blind pick would be most likely.
 4. Balancing would probably be similar to twisted treeline as each team has 3 players.
 5. The gorilla idea sounds epic.(maybe three heads 1 per team, idk.)

THREE HEADED GORILLA! RITO PLZ! The thing about balancing I was worried about was things like Karthus ult being insanely powerful, and summoner 3 being horrible due to having many more targets to worry about. As a whole, this mode would either be amazing, or bomb completely, no matter what specifics happen to it.

I agree that would be epic, but there is no way to have lanes meet each other so that each group can fight all other groups. :(

Add a mid lane?

AbsoluteSadman1 votes

Then youd have one lane with WAAAAY more xp and gold in it

Each team sends 1 champ left and right, and the last one goes mid where one champ from each team fight to the death to capture a shrine.

four bases. one lane connecting adjacent bases, one lane that goes on one diagonal and then a bridge lane that goes over mid lane.

My question to you, how does one code a bridge lane? What features does it have, how does it affect vision? That would never work.

Looks pretty cool, but the jungle is kind of small to have 3 junglers. That would lead to all three people on each team laning, and there's no way for that not to result in someone being stuck in a 1v2. The idea is really interesting though!

Great point, the jungle is rather small , and meant to make getting the jungle camps an extra thing, rather than having full time junglers. Having either 1 2v1 lane, or 3 2v1 lanes makes everything more interesting and takes more strategy than other games.

Interesting, but unlikely to happen.

I'd rather see like a 6v6 where each team has 2 bases on the opposite side of the map. Not sure if both should fall or just one.

Rek'Sai would have a hay day being able to tunnel from jungle to jungle in no time (what have I done!? :0)

Needs more jungle camps , because I'm offended as a jungler that I need to run to the other side of the map for wolves that I will probably get shrekt'd for.

Interesting idea. I think it would be kinda refreshing to have different team setups. But I have to agree with the guy who said that two teams would just gang up against the third team. And that's not fun. There has to be a fair way to play the game.

I came up with an idea that could make it a bit more "balanced". Basically a random member of the game gets a bounty on them. Killing that person gives huge amount of gold to the team that kills him/her. The bounty is replaced every 2 minutes and also if the player with the bounty is killed. The bounty will rotate between the teams and team members.

Bounty buff: Passive: your teams structures will recieve 20% less damage (excluding nexus). Passive: you will be seen by all the enemies. Passive: when you kill an enemy champion you will recieve 200 extra gold. Passive: when you die the enemy team from which the killer was from is granted 600 gold equally distributed between the enemy team members (200g each).

This would promote playstyles where the teams try to gang up against the team that currently has the bounty buff. The team with the bounty member can either defend or take a risk and try to get kills for a reward.

Tactics where you sneak to destroy the non bounty team structures could also work.

i think i like your idea but at the same time i would like to see this done to the crystal scar and it be objective based.

Ardent Slurt1 votes

I think the idea is great but the objective should be like ascention racking up points by destroying towers and nexus or if your towers and nexus are destroyed the team to destroys it is given a buff so that might help against teams trying to gang up on one another

DarkDeamonDragon1 votes

I think this would be awesome! I wouldn't do a nexus destruction though, perhaps more like capture the flag. Like by killing monsters in the jungle would give you a flag that you would have to walk back to your base or something, and you wouldn't be able to get flags from monsters in your third of the jungle. Then you have to get through the enemy teams to bring it back to your base. If a champ dies while carrying a flag, the flag goes to the killer, and you can't have more than one flag in your possession at a time. Just a thought.

I really like this idea, it seems like a fun one.

Riot seems pretty dead set against making any more maps, sadly.

Seems like an interesting idea, but like everyone else, I agree with a 2v1 team concern.

I think, instead of a Destroy-The-Base gamemode, it should be a boss rush instead. Like, each boss is worth a point, the big one worth a substantial amount more? Teams would have to not only juggle fighting the other team, but also juggle having to kill other bosses.

Also, with this idea, teaming would be a lot harder, because if red and blue were to team on the green team at, say the big 5 point boss, who would get the boss at that point? In the nexus-elimination idea, it doesn't matter, its the last team standing. But with the boss rush, it would be highest point total at a certain time, or to reach a certain point total. It would be much more unlikely to get teamed.

However, this would require a much more dynamic jungle, with a bunch of twists, turns, brushes to be ambushed in, and smaller monsters to get buffed into killing the bosses. The lanes would have to serve another purpose, or it would be useless unless you were trying to get to another team's base.

This is the reason I made it so that the first team to destroy a nexus would win. "Also, with this idea, teaming would be a lot harder, because if red and blue were to team on the green team at, say the big 5 point boss, who would get the boss at that point?" Obviously teaming would run the risk of who would get the last hit on the nexus, making it not worth the risk. That being said if any team entered the base the other team would as well to chance beating them to the nexus. TL;DR Teams wouldn't team up on another until their base has been breached.

LoudEkho1 votes

well this would be quite a good idea because if one team had to be fed, then the other two opposing teams would be able to gang up on that team. Very create concept I do have to agree.

I like this idea a lot. You actually posted your version of this before I could post mine, haha! I just posted mine and it looks very similar to yours. Maybe you could check mine out? :3
