New Ultra Rapid Fire Predictions

Now that the news is out, what are everyone's predictions about the OP champions and builds in the NURF (I see what you did there) rules set?

For easy reference, the game mode modifiers are:

+100% mana and energy cost on all abilities +200% cooldown inflation on abilities, items and summoner spells +225 movement speed reduction +200% delay between basic attacks Critical strikes deal 50% of base AD Units critically strike on 150% of attacks

Best predictions so far (IMO):

  1. Fiddlesticks - has an aura ult and can jump out of hiding with it. W drain is channeled and will last longer since it will take enemies longer to get out of range.

  2. Katarina - channeled ability, does not rely on aa or crits, and has resets.

  3. Amumu - has an aura, and can double down with itemization like Cinderhulk. Plus tank stats aren't nerfed, which should make them stronger relative to offensive stats.

  4. Morgana - Lots of CC, her pool will hit for longer against slowed movement enemies, ult will likely hit for full, resulting in a ton of damage, snare and a stun.

  5. Heimer - Dem turrets!

  6. Viegar - hard to dodge combo

  7. Nidalee - hard to dodge spears and resourceless cat form.

  8. Gailo - good base damage, hard to dodge aoe ult, move speed buff

  9. Akali - still bursty enough.

  10. Riven - resourceless, has a dash.

  11. Rumble - good luck getting out of that ult!

  12. Teemo - move speed buff and debuff and does magic damage over time... and we have all the time in the world.

  13. Zyra - easy to land skill shots + plants you can't escape from = godly!!!

Honerable mention:

  1. Swain - Channeled Ult that heals - healing is not nerfed which should make it stronger relative to offensive abilities. But will 100% more mana cost be too much?

  2. Kalista - jump passive may be really good - but can she itemize attack speed while avoiding crit?

  3. Brand - will be much easier to land his full combo, which will kill many champs, but will the high mana costs and cool downs wreck him in team fights?

Katarina is the obvious 100% must-pick or ban champion.

Nothing in the list hurts her as much as it hurts everyone else. she doesn't build ad, she doesn't care about crits, she doesn't care if she's slow as long as you're slow too, she would gladly trade slightly longer cooldowns for completely gutting everyone else.

Katarina is either going to start off banned or get there day 1.

100% pick ban rate, guaranteed.

All I know is that Yasuo will be the absolute WORST champion EVER. He can't build any crit items, and because all Autos do half damage becuase each one is guaranteed crits at 50% damage, and yasuo takes another 10% damage penalty, Yasuo will be the absolute worst champ in N.U.R.F

I just posted this in another thread, but I am really looking forward to playing my man Galio.

  • His high base damage on Q means he's going to hit like a truck early on, and skill shots should be much easier to land on slower opponents.

  • I'm a little worried because healing for his shield is based on number of attacks so the delay on basic attacks hurts a bit, but worst case for the shield is that it adds a ton of resistances. Not sure if minions and monsters attack slower-- if not, we can still heal by walking into a minion wave with Bulwark up.

  • The recently reduced cooldowns on his E means he's going to be one of the best for buffing his team's move speed, and I think small edges in move speed are going to be super valuable given the more stately pace of the game.

  • The most important thing, though, is that slower opponents means easier multi-person ults. We just have to be very strategic about when we pull the trigger.

I love the emphasis on well-considered strategic play in New Ultra Rapid Fire mode-- this looks to be my kind of game!

My baby Zyra will rise again. item 3116 + item 3151 already makes her unbearable in the standard Summoner's Rift. Imagine all the pain fun you can have with inescapable plants, roots, and her ult <3

I'm getting chills ;)

Fiddlesticks will be OP. Why?

Because his Q slows you down, so you're slower than you already are. His W will drain longer since it'll take a decade to escape. You know that skill you've been waiting years to cool-down? E will put you in your place. And who needs speed when his R can just teleport him on-top of someone?

Everyone builds Rylai's or Frozen Mallet.

Level 1-3 deathball teamcomps: Leona, Blitzcrank, Lulu, Braum, etc for massive CC chains. Laning is irrelevant because gold is only good for carries to itemize damage: hard CC is build into champion kits and will secure early kills.

Twitch/Kalista will be pick/ban: stack for days: press E to win.

No one will dive towers.

Worst game 2015.

Kalista looks still strong. Mana isn't much of a problem. I guess jump are relatively unaffected. As is slower, but that just means she jump less often, but if you're slowed why bother. Kalista with a slow on her support. Can still jump with Q.

While harder to stack, E will hit pretty hard when it hits.

Katarina - channeled ability, does not rely on aa or crits, and has resets.

Katarina's ability to be broken on every featured game is awesome. URF: Kata OP. NURF: Kata OP. Even when they are exactly the opposite.

true story

Kalista - jump passive may be really good - but can she itemize attack speed while avoiding crit?

I agree with Katarina; regarding your other suggestions:

  • Fiddlestick's ult is already on a pretty long cooldown, and it's not like he doesn't have mana issues already. Same thing with Amumu; mana will now drain twice as quickly.
  • Morgana also has pretty high mana costs. Landing her Q probably isn't as important since everyone is already really slow already.
  • Swain has a ton of mana issues also.
  • Kalista seldom builds crit; usually I see BotRK/Runaan's/BT, so she'll probably be fine

My predictions:

  • Riven will also probably be pretty strong, just with how she can AA reset and has more mobility than most (plus no resource)
  • Rek'Sai can set up tunnels to help her (permanently) get around easier; also has no resources
  • Mordekaiser generally struggles because of his immobility; now everyone is immobile; also his resource is health, which isn't getting 'nurfed'
  • Rumble, especially if you can manage your heat well. His ult will be tough to escape if you don't have a dash.
  • Shyvana has a way of speeding herself up, also her AA reset can probably dish a ton of damage.
  • Renekton has his double dash, also an AA reset
  • Garen has a spammable speed buff, plus it'll be difficult for people to escape his spin. He won't be able to build crit though.
  • Nidalee is going to have a much easier time landing spears, plus her cougar form is resourceless; she'll have mana issues though
  • Elise is similar to Nidalee, though weaker. Landing cocoons will be easier, though mana problems are going to be rough.

Generally I think resourceless champions are going to reign supreme, especially those with movement abilities. Mana reliant champions are his really hard (especially since mana regen is still pretty bad at early levels), and even energy champions have it rough (Kennen and Shen's MS boost/dashes cost their entire energy pool).

Some resourceless champions are going to be weak though; Tryndamere gets weaker the more rage he gets because of crit, lol (he's still weaker imo, but not for this reason, thanks Garlyle Wilds for the correction). Gnar might have a hard time building up rage (not sure how high the decay rate is) to transform because of lower AS and longer CDs.

I think Brand will be another good one. He does have high mana cost but he has DoT based on health. It'll be a lot more difficult to dodge his full combos and he does have super high damage. Him blowing his full combo usually kills anyone soooooo I think Brand should be in honorable mention

Fear Popo3/31/2015, 5:52:33 PM1 votes

Kalista will be incredibly bad on this game mode. Like unplayably bad. 200% delay to autoattacks on a champion that can't cancel her auto attacks and has absolutely no other way of doing damage besides her autos. Nope.

They've got 8 hours until they announce that it's the joke or I'm seriously going to be fucking pissed

are you guys really forgetting singed? oh yeah and renekton

Qwertycwer3/31/2015, 10:56:26 PM1 votes

I think that Singed and Ryze will both be decent. Singed's poison will still be spammable, Ryze's passive will help his abilities stay on a low-ish cooldown, and they both benefit from stacking mana, which may end up being a bit more necessary with the mana cost buff.

+100% mana and energy cost on all abilities

  1. Amumu - has an aura, and can double down with itemization like Cinderhulk. Plus tank stats aren't nerfed, which should make them stronger relative to offensive stats.
