This is how most of the community feels right now... If you don't want there to be "a requirement to grind on the sandbox" or whatever... then fucking remove normal games. If i shouldn't have to have a requirement in doing something before going into ranked ill just go play a first time as brand, go ad jungle with barrier and no smite... I don't even think I've used barrier in a game before but shrugs w/e

Oh.. ALSO DoTA is just as (and if not, more) competitive as your game and has a sandbox mode.
