New Maps (Ideas inside)
While I fully understand the need for balancing Summoner's Rift, especially since that's where literally all the ranked stuff happens, sometimes I just... get totally fed up with the same map over and over. It's a relief to play ARAM, Dominion or Twisted Treeline, despite the latter two not having as many players or fans.
Now...I sincerely hope Riot will not consider neglecting or removing the three non-Summoner's Rift maps. That would be several steps backwards, not forward. Please don't turn League into Dota 2 with only one map. That will become incredibly dull and limited. =<
I like how Smite did it. They have a standard SR-like map for Conquest mode (5vs5, standard mode), a small one-lane/2-sidelane with jungle camps for Joust (3vs3), a treeline-like map with 2 lanes/jungle inbetween plus siege monsters to unlock for the Siege mode (4vs4), a long ARAM-like map for their ARAM-like mode Assault (5vs5, random champs/gods), and the Arena which has a few camps but absolutely zero towers with a point system like Dominion.
That's 5 maps, all of which are played regularly by players. Smite definitely has its flaws, but I like the diversity it offers. Sometimes I wish League would offer similar diversity. While I'm very grateful for 4 maps and 4 modes, and I hope they will at least stay, here are a few ideas for new maps.
-
Downtown Piltover. A more city-like environment with smaller lanes, backalleys, fences, and no brush. Probably multiple lanes and ways to get there through the "urban jungle". Bad pun, I know.
-
Shurima Desert. Come on..this has to happen. I envision it as a more open map (what are deserts if not open?), though one could essentially employ rocks and canyons to create lanes. Brush might exist, but probably not a lot of them, unless near an oasis. Perhaps the oasis holds an objective, as well. Perhaps ruins admidst the sands hold one, too?
-
Freljord Tundra. Not a long bridge, but a cold snow-covered landscape, while snow falls as we battle. Lakes and rivers are frozen over, perhaps affecting movement on it if not afloat or wearing boots. A map showcasing the harshness of the Freljord, as well as its beauty.
-
Void Corrupted. An area (could be anything from a forest to plains to mountains) affected by the Void, ruining it for many many years to come. Void portals appear here and there, spawning voidlings that attack any minions or champions coming near. Voidlings aren't picky about who they eat. Every now and then, a larger void creature spawns to cause havoc, though killing it offers greater rewards. Possibly this area provides a minor buff to Void champions such as
, not counting Void skins like
. Perhaps merely a visual effect showing they're attuned to the corruption or something. -
Ionia. I would have to think on what makes this map different aside from lanes and such. Still, I would love to see more of Ionia's landscape.
