There little stubs under his hat, those are his ears and he would look adorable without his hat on. Just picture a Veigar without a hat.

They captured the evil side of him, but completely disregarded the Yordle side of him. When I look at that, then enter a game, I'll never understand his inferiority complex or size problem. Current splash shows it.

Just always remember that even in that pose, he still would only come up to about the waist (at the top pod the hat) to a normal person. He is probably scaring a squirrel or something in this picture. And yes that was a short joke

Keep in mind the head to body ratio. In this splash, Veigar is perhaps two or two and a half heads tall, which is really short.

Agreed...could have added some more details (like shadows or small creatures) or changed the angle to feature his ironic twist as a tiny evil master. Sure it looks cool, but they didn't have to sacrifice identity for badassery

It is just a means of emphasizing his power; essentially, before his eyes glowed to indicate his magical strength, now they are overflowing with energy.

Does it convey the right image? Maybe, but that is not for me to decide.

That's what I'm getting at, I don't feel it is the right image. Given his background, the flowing/whispy look seems wrong.

For some example, Udyr has "spirits", Malz "void essence", and Brand "fire elemental" for their sources of power, so having a smoky eye glow fits in pretty good. Even Shyvana would be alright with it being a half-dragon (though she has normal eyes). Veigar on the other hand stands beside Syndra and Xerath - pure, unmatched, uninhibitied magical power. This isn't something with an ethereal nature and the sheer magnitude of it is more fitting of the radiant glow style.

I see your point. It is possible that the magic he uses to conceal his face in shadow is warping the glow emitted by his eyes, distorting the air around it. Unlikely, but it is one way of rationalizing the stylistic choice. Personally, I am not seriously bothered by it, but I can understand why some would be irked.

Judging from the other threads concerning new splash art, Veigar seems the least divergent from player expectations.

No denying it's really cool, though one thing is that he is no longer standing on books, being so short is part of his character and this splash doesn't really portray that. Epic splash either way doe :3

I like it, especially those eyes. But I'm just wondering if Riot will ever give these old champions visual upgrades since they are updating the splash art based on the old models.

They will. Putting Veigar, Tristana, or old Sion next to champions like Braum, Gnar, and Azir clearly exemplifies how badly some champions need a visual update. However, Riot is a business and splash arts are not free; they would not invest money in a new splash unless the update mirrored it perfectly or the update is a substantial time away.

So while the new splash arts do not indicate these champions are being excluded from updates, I would not hold my breath for them being released within the next few months.

My three wishlist items for when Veigar inevitably gets his rework/VU:

Keep him a yordle. The contrast between his EEEEEVIIIILLLL persona and his fuzzy cuteness is a big part of his theme. It also adds some pathos to his solitary confinement story, given that yordles go insane even faster than humans when isolated.
He should still angrily accuse his Summoner of telling short jokes. The Narrative team claims that lore and gameplay have no connection any longer, and also acknowledges that we're "still Summoners in the game", so let him keep his bickering VO. It helps bring out his personality. It'd be weird if he were just babbling to himself.
I hope they don't genericize his gameplay. He's more of a classic Champion, with marked strengths and weaknesses, rather than a bland sea of "meh" pros and cons. I understand why not every Champion should be like this, but I really hope they keep Veigar Veigar.

I doubt they would ever retcon Veigar into being anything but a yordle, he brings so much to what we understand to be a yordle; insanity through isolation, the potential to be unrepentantly evil, and a real presence outside of Bandle City.
Veigar being paranoid, angry, bitter, and just a touch unintentionally cute also define him as the Tiny Master of Evil. They would not change that either.
His kit is somewhat outdated, but unlike most older champions, his has some level of synergy and is not outright broken. He may not see much competitive play, but Veigar is the burst mage.

Everything that Veigar is defines him as a character and a champion. Taking his identity too far from what it currently presents would be a terrible crime. Honestly, I solely expect him to receive a Visual Update, not a kit rework as well; a better model, expanded voice acting, and new animations.

I'm not sure of anything with the new tack Narrative is taking. "Oh, he's defined by what happened to him rather than what he did! Change it so that his friends were locked up and he studied dark magic to go save them, then did! EPIC. MORE AGENCY." (This would completely change the resonance of the story, through an overly mechanical application of storytelling "rules"—just the sort of error that Riot's over-polished recent lore is prone to.)

But I think these elements might well become flatter if they insist on making all Champion voicework a monologue without at least an implied second character (the Summoner). Given Veigar's paranoia, a mage "watching over" him and giving him instructions seems prone to bringing out this rage. Like, "SHUT UP AND CAST FLASH WHEN I TELL YOU TO, SUMMONER! DO NOT DEFY ME! AND STOP LAUGHING! I AM EVIL!"

This warrants a separate thread, but I can see them using the word "anti-fun" to take away his burst. His meteor is also "hard", as a delayed skillshot. Most beginner Veigar players just synchronize it with his stun and can't land it otherwise; I can imagine Riot catering to that audience.

You're right, though, that his kit has much more depth and synergy than a lot of older "grab-bag" Champions. Maybe they'll take a light touch.

I think the best thing would be if they completely reworked him. His model needs to be reworked. His "weapons" (the big hand and staff) don't really have anything to do with any of his spells... and they look old fashioned. Also a kit rework is needed. He simply could be more interesting. I wish his ult was something like Karma's mantra Q, but only more deadly with a channel time similar to new Sion's Q. And obviously if you got hit you would insta die :P
