A demon,” Shen remarked. “You must have sailed into its path.”

The fisherman nodded grimly. Spirits of all kinds were known to mingle with the physical world, especially in Ionia, where the barrier between realms was thin and passable. The ethereal and material planes were in constant contact, sliding peacefully past one another like oil atop water.

As the Eye of Twilight, it was Shen’s duty to walk between the worlds, ensuring neither side overwhelmed the other. To humans, he was a ghost, vanishing in the space between breaths to reappear many miles away. To spirits, he was a human, flesh and bone who ought never to venture into ethereal realms.

Shen is a kind of Demon Hunter, and they are common in Ionia. The "movement" of the planes is VERY similar to Dungeons & Dragons Eberron by description. Sometimes 2 planes overlap and are "coterminous". In Eberron this can have many effects for while it lasts. In many places it is only temporary, but in other places it is a constant.

An enigma to the shadowy realm of the spirits, as well as the mortal territories of man, Shen belongs to neither. Within him exists an uneasy fusion of human soul and arcane power. He is seen by both sides as someone to be feared. He is immovable. He is constant. He answers to nothing but his purpose.

Although his birth within the most revered of Ionian clans marked him as destined to serve, it was his iron will that made Shen the chosen leader of a shadowed order. Wielding his spirit blade the symbol of his duty, as well his connection to the spirit realm - Shen roams both worlds, unerringly drawn to any place where one side threatens to overwhelm the other.

There are countless legends recounting Shen's battles across the realms. From his innumerable clashes with the Seven Demon Clan throughout Ionia's physical and ethereal planes to Shen's brutal scourging of the loathsome skin devourers from the Black Steppes of the Freljord, the truth is lost among the tales told in his wake.

One of the most fanciful stories recounted by Ionians is of the day Shen suddenly appeared in the central court of Noxus. Standing in the very heart of his enemy’s stronghold, onlookers watched in rapt horror as he appeared to fight a terrible battle against a threat they could not see. To the crowd, Shen seemed to flash in and out of existence, wounds blossoming all over his body from nowhere. Unknown to the Noxians, he singlehandedly defended their entire empire from an incursion by the spirit world.

As a true neutral guy he defends everyone...even from threats that can't be seen. Even Noxians. That makes me wonder if he KNOWS about Jericho Swain.

It also makes me wonder how "demons" relate to the things that come out of the void, and the things that come back from the dead, but also the things from the Fairy Realm. Could he be allies with Kassadin, Lucian, and Vayne? Or would he sometimes work against them? I wonder if in the future they could have interactions.

Enforcing that equilibrium was its own struggle. For the task, Shen carried two blades on his back. One was an Ionian steel saber that could cleave through a person in one blow. The other was a sword of pure arcane energy. It was used for dealing with spirits, and had been passed down through many generations of Shen's ancestors. He had slain countless demons, ghosts, wraiths, and sprites with it over the years

Near the end of Shen;s Story

A moment later, Shen reappeared at the site of the shipwreck. All around, smoldering pools of black ooze evaporated into the air, coupled with the lingering reek of terror.

Black ooze. Black ooze gets mentioned during the Harrowing Event last year, and in Nautilus' Lore. Is this "Ecto-/necro-plasm"

Also during this story, we got to see Shen's "True Neutral" position. This makes me wonder how Shen would view Tahm Kench and the lives he claims, or Aatrox and the sides he takes in warfare, but also Ahri. It also makes me wonder how he will react to the Return to Targon

That....seems like a BIG deal. Celestial Spirits come from SPAAAAACE! And I imagine something like Aurelion Sol** VERY WELL** could be like GOZER or the Stay Puft Marshmallow man to Shen. (Feel kind of in the mood with new Ghostbusters trailer out)

"Then, during the Third Reconciliation of the Last of the Meketrex Supplicants, they chose a new form for him, that of a giant Sloar! Many Shubs and Zulls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of a Sloar that day, I can tell you!"

Although Tahm preys on people, they are completely capable of resisting, as many of the champions have. So I would think that unless Tahm starts eating rampantly he would be safe, such as the law protects underhanded contracts. You signed it, and though it is unfair it is not illegal.

Ahri I think would be protected from Shen's wrath by her change of heart and her ongoing defense of a village (in her updated lore), as she is only taking the humanity of those who threaten the lives of the village people.

Aatox I think would also be safe because he doesn't cause wars, he just appears in them and helps one side win, which is closer to neutral than evil.

The Shadow Isles would be a target for Shen as all of the major players there (except Kalista, because she only kills when people summon her to do so, at the cost of the summoners life) kill wantonly and enslave the spirits that they reap.

Seeing as nearly everything(nearly is just there because going 100% of anything without it being certain is foolish) that comes out of the void has tried to kill/eat any living thing that it has come across, it seems that Shen would kill the voidlings that he comes across, there by making Kassidin an indirect ally.

I would like to note that in Diana's color text she fights some void spawns and it is said that they bleed a "black ichor" and when she killed the first void spawn is says that "The creature she had killed now resembled a pool of bubbling tar."

Overall the question is: What classifies as a spirit?

Bards lore says he is a spirit and Shens lore also mentions demons,so TahmKench would also be considered a spirit.

I doubt that void creatures, undeads or darkin would be considered spirits though. The void creatures seem to be purely physical beasts, the void might be another "dimension",but its not directly part of runeterra like the spirit realm.

Meanwhile the undeads are likely not considered "spirits",at least not like Tahm or Bard,as the undeads aren't connected to the spirit realm. However Maokai was originally a nature spirit,so it would be interesting to see shens opinion about him(though i think he'd see maokai as the victim here for obvious reasons)

Last but not least we have the darkin, who are kind of hard to pin down, but I think that they are physical beings,so I think they wouldn't count as spirits either.

I feel like Shen wouldn't have a problem witch TahmKench, hes not a nice guy, but he clearly plays by a very specific set of rules, and has to be "let in" by his victims. If people in Runeterra want to make a deal with the devil I don't think its in the interest of the balance to step in when he comes to collect.
