This is why General DuCouteau would be the perfect character to solve the Black Rose/DuCouteau Story

First as much as like General to be alive, it is not needed for him to stay alive really. I also wrote a thread like this in the past but here is why I think he is still alive:

There are only two bits that give information about General Du Couteau's fate and they are:

  • Urgot's taunt against Katarina: I hope your father begged when Swain betrayed him.

This implies Swain had a connection to General's fate but Urgot is not a reliable source.

  • Swain's taunt against Katarina: Do they know who killed your father, or do they still blame me?

While many take this line as "He is dead, why they are still trying to blame me for it?", it can also imply this:

Do they know what happened to your father truly, or do they still think i got him killed? It is a bit hard to explain but take it like this, Swain have done a lot purges to the noble families to cleanse the Black Rose corruption from Noxian High Command. And how does Swain get rid of them? Does he tries to make an example by hanging them, or gets rid of them silently? Do those people just disappear one day? And wouldn't all the nobles be afraid the same to happen them as well? But Swain says he did not kill him or got him killed. But here is the punchline:

##*How can you find or know the killer of someone, if they are not dead at all? *

In the old lore General Du Couteau has gone missing because he discovered many thing he should not have discovered. He found out Black Rose's secrets. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't play out similarly in the new lore, please correct me if you have any. General finds out the secrets, he tells Swain about them, Swain "betrays" him. General is now "dead". General Du Couteau is now missing. Nobles try to frame Swain for it, same as the disappearance of the other nobles.

But as I said, even if General Du Couteau coming a champion to league would be the best opportunity to update Du Couteau family and what Black Rose is up to, it can be done even if he is not alive-dead coming to league or not. But if a champion is coming to update the champions I mentioned, why would Riot create a random new character instead of using General Du Couteau? And his name is still not known to this day. Curious isn't it? Like maybe they still didn't figure out a name that fits all regions?

#Even if death awaits in the end:

General Du Couteau is a character connected to Black Rose since it's very creation and his whole arc revolves around Black Rose.

Currently we have no idea what Black Rose is plotting, what they are up to or what is their ultimate goal. Even with LeBlanc update, nothing. The story we get should be related to him because he is connected to not only Black Rose but three champions of League:

Katarina Cassiopeia Talon and these are all just within the family.

Even if he is a side character he is in the center of everything, and important to the storyline of Black Rose and Du Couteau family.

Katarina : Katarina learned everything from his father and in the end of her bio she swears to gain his favor back, knowing it is impossible. But why finish a bio open ended like this if General is gonna die anyway? If General is dead then why is it not stated clearly? What's her stance on Black Rose? Her connection with Garen, it's been implied for a long time now. Also this quote is still interesting:

He asked her to do what she could not, to kill me.

Cassiopeia : Why did Cass gone to Shurima? To search for artifacts that could help "Noxus". Which Noxus? Swain's or Leblanc's? How did her family react when she returned from Shurima? Her short bio says she stays in the mansion but... Doesn't even say House Du Couteau. Just says her families house. We don't know anything about her relationship with anything too.

The payment for her suffering in Shurima, a black rose. General's own daughter seems connected to be a member of Black Rose...

Talon : The champion that is here because of General. His whole existence is connected to this man. He looks for him without stop for 7.5 years. Talon's arc didn't get continued for 7.5 years. But what would be Talon's stand on this conflict, did he knew what General was doing? What does he think about Black Rose, does he even know? What's his place in family?

What is Talon good for exactly?

This is why I think General Du Couteau should be an important character, though as you see he is already a pretty important character in Du Couteau and Black Rose arc. I hope you enjoyed the read and one personal note from me:

If certain big updates are only made after VGU's and champion releases and there is not a single VGU coming for Noxus right now, they will bring Noxus' big update by a champion.

Why would it be some random character created out of nowhere, but not General Du Couteau? He is already connected to a lot of champions and arcs, but sadly he is not an established character. But everyone's idea is different and this makes us special. I am looking forward to hearing your opinions on the matter!

This is really interesting :D I've just gotten into the whole Noxus spiral myself.

To answer your question about Talon, I think he might play a part in finding Du Couteau, if they do update the lore. In the case that the General is actually killed by the Black Rose, he could be the new face who has some sort of rivalry/ hatred towards them.

I think it'd be cool for them to make the General a new champion, maybe as an assassin or a bruiser. He is indeed crucial to the Du Couteau/ Black Rose plot, so it'd be interesting to see things unravel. The only knowledge I have of the Noxus lore are the recent developments on how 'the strong survive', but there are still a ton of missing gaps. Hopefully, they'll update soon. [slayer-jinx-catface]

His fate could be discovered If Talon gets lore update. He was investigating it. I don't see a reason to bring him as new champion when this would be enough. Besides making new champion isn't just about story. He'd need to have unique enough playstyle to justify himself.

Talon's lore is not where the Du Couteau mystery should be addressed. The guy should have a story to tell outside of the events that concern some faceless NPC character. Obviously the general would be mentioned under the context that he's Talon's mentor but as soon as Du Couteau is more of the focus than Talon himself, then there's a huge problem with Talon's bio.

Secondly, I would tie his death to Swain's coup. Just like Draven was there to help Swain, and like how Swain got rid of Urgot, so too was Du Couteau removed from office. This time however it was Katarina who saw her father as what was holding Noxus back, he probably would be an opposition to Swain anyhow.

So you are saying that we're going to get the General as a playable character too because Talon's been searching for him for ages, just like we got Kai'Sa because Kassadin's been looking for her for a decade?
