can't say I care for how reluctant she sounds
I dunno, I find it charming. She's kinda dorky!
I imagined her sounding more bold
I don't really like the "Hero" shtick either

With respect, I find your view of this to be rather sanguine. Perhaps you're trying a bit too hard to be kind to Riot. I sympathize: Rioters clearly worked hard on this new Poppy, and I want to respect their efforts. The problem is that this new Poppy is also an embodiment of profound disrespect for a much greater volume of prior work by Riot and the community. I appreciate their work on this new Poppy, but I can't ignore that they destroyed old Poppy in the process, or at least relegated her to a tenuous "future timeline" status.
EDIT: Now it's time for me to eat my words somewhat. I've listened to the new VO myself now, and…honestly, she sounds like Poppy. Just a more youthful Poppy from earlier in her timeline.

Too kind? No I genuinely like the voice. I like the angle they're going with on Poppy's character in this update. I understand folks aren't all pleased, but I'm not sugar coating anything for the sake of being nice to Riot; I'm very much a fan of this.
Agreed. Poppy used to be stern and resolute, and now she's just...meek and worried? That's a total reversal of what her character was.

Well she has a new lore I think, something about her trying to find a new person worthy of the hammer so she can pass it down or something?
Yes, she does, she's the "Keeper Of The Hammer" now. It sounds like, judging by her voice clips, she still has Demacian connections, so the ambassador stuff might not entirely be gone, but she thinks she's supposed to be delivering this hammer to a hero worthy of it.
The hero is her (Or at least extremely heavily implied to be her), but she doesn't realize that, I guess.
I just kinda feel like she's a whole new character now. It's not to the degree of like, Trundle, but it's a huge change in her personality, which is a little jarring.

I dunno, I really like the new twist of her backstory and voice actor. Instead of being this OP person with a strong hammer, she's this strong but timid Yordle who believes she is strong without being too confident, but still does what she has to do to find the true hammer wielder. It's nice. ^-^
I think what they're going for is that she thinks she's meek and she is indeed worried but in reality she's actually really strong and will make it though. She really doesn't know how great she is.

Yeah. Narrative/ChampUP had been doing really well with keeping characters mostly consistent with their established personas, and I can't help but see this as a regression to the "blank slate retcon" modus operandi.
I mean, I guess they could try to fuse the traditions by saying that this Poppy is Poppy early in her journey, and the established Poppy is her after she's completed her quest. But at the rate Riot's going, that might be years from now, leaving the community in a state of limbo. Unless and until that happens, all prior Poppy lore is invalidated. Every story or piece of artwork that someone created featuring the hardcore, tough-as-nails Iron Ambassador is now nullified. Everyone who became invested in Poppy as she was before has had the rug pulled out from under them.
IMO, this blank slate approach is not an appropriate way of handling a living universe that people have become immersed in over years past.
I'm not saying that New Poppy isn't an interesting character. I'm not even saying that she might not be a "better" character in some sense. I'm merely saying that she's not the same character. Cutting a character out and slapping in a new one in their place is a drastic blank-slate retcon.
EDIT: I wrote the above based on second-hand accounts of the new VO. Now that I've listened to it myself, uh…it actually sounds pretty Poppy to me. Well, sort of, anyway: it sounds like Young Poppy. I'm pleased to be wrong here.**
You're still here? Thought you would've left in the Mothership when it inevitably gets retconned.
Sounds a little too much like Tristana imo, but still good.
I see someone is trying to edge out Diana for "Best Joke". A worthy attempt.
In so far as intelligence goes, she is as sharp as her weapon.
Ooooh! You'll have to talk to Anivia for that burn, 'cause this is just brutal.
What a villainous remark for such an innocent little Yordle... Love it.

Ah, yes. But at least it took her a much shorter time to learn how to stop dashes with her AoE ability.

A lil hint for taric's rework. He's in Targon now
Seems to be that way.
So targon has gem knights now......is there another tribe on targon?
This actually makes sense, with both his update and a Targon event supposedly coming up early next year.
Oh my god. I totally lost it when she started snorting during her laughs. New favorite yordle girl. <3
Love the visual side of the rework but the voice seems............ off. Way off.
I thought it was Tristana at first actually.
Not what I was hoping for at all. She doesn't SOUND resolute or tough like the original. Kind of too young (?) maybe.
Some of these lines are freaking gold.
"Nice weapon. Does it come in hammer?"
"A hammer for my hammer. I'll just add it to my other hammer."
I'm dying over here!
