Weren't Ultimate skin lines supposed to be unique?

I was going to make a post that was in all caps yelling "no" for a really long time followed by screaming, but then I realized that that would literally only be unproductive and time wasting. That kind of stuff belongs in Memes & Games (jk, jk, calm down).

Anyway, what the title said. I remember reading somewhere that Ultimate skins were made with the rule that their specific theme would never be used again. That would mean no more DJ skins, no more Elementalist skins, etc, Ultimate or not. Am I mistaken in remembering that rule? If no, what happened to it?

Just to be clear, I'm not… complaining, exactly. I just want to know what's going on.

If I had to guess, there will probably be an Ask Riot about this soon.

shrug

I don't think it really matters. I like that they're exploring the Pulsefire fantasy with another skin.

Maybe they meant it more in a "the skin will not be part of an existing skinline when it comes out"-thing?

I'm not sure how I feel about this either. On the one hand, I agree I thought Ultimate skins were unique, and part of their appeal is that there would be no others like them. On the other hand, this is great opportunity to bring PF Ezreal up to par with the other Ult skins, which by the looks of the WIP Surrender@20 post seems to be exactly what they are doing. So if nothing else, PFE is benefiting in some indirect way.

Times change. They've clearly seen that there's a wider range of champions that can fit the themes just as well so might as well add more. I mean there are still many unique themes in the game for various champions so it's not like those are completely dead but this is just something people have expressed interest in. I've seen a lots of fan stuff for Pulse Fire Vayne, Cait, ect. So Riot is just going on with it.

The Ultimate skins still come with their special animated images, icons, ect so it's not like those aren't unique to them.

That just means that elementalist Ryze and Dj (Metal) Mordekaiser could be a thing now!!

I actually think it was a good call to break any traditions like that.

Elementalist Taliyah for example should be explored.

MY personal issue is that Pulsefire caitlyn priced at 1820 legendary status is still superior quality to the original pulsefire ezreal 3250 ultimate even with them slightly "updating" it.

She even has an original dance. Pulsefire ezreal plays his old dance just with a small hologram. Pulsefire caitlyn plays an original dance with a small hologram.

This could be a legendary, it doesn't seem to have very many new effects
