Male to female champ Ratio -- way more male champs....

Witchy Wench·11/19/2018, 2:03:01 PM·14 votes·13,513 views

Am I missing something here, I've seen several people whine about the new champ possibly being female.... Is there not like double the male champs to choose from in-game compared to female? What?

I listed the champions by gender to make the discussion easier. Be aware that opinions may differ in some cases, this is just how I would sort them.

Male champions (71): Aatrox Amumu Azir Brand Braum Corki Darius DrMundo Draven Ekko Ezreal Fizz Gangplank Garen Gnar Gragas Graves Hecarim Heimerdinger Ivern JarvanIV Jax Jayce Jhin Karthus Kassadin Kayn Kennen Kled LeeSin Lucian Malzahar MasterYi Mordekaiser Nasus Nautilus Nunu Olaf Pantheon Pyke Rakan Renekton Rengar Rumble Ryze Shen Singed Sion Swain Talon Taric Teemo Thresh Trundle Tryndamere TwistedFate Udyr Urgot Varus Veigar Viktor Vladimir Warwick MonkeyKing Xerath XinZhao Yasuo Yorick Zed Ziggs Zilean

Genderless/unknown gender, but usually considered male (20): Alistar AurelionSol Blitzcrank Chogath Fiddlesticks Galio Khazix KogMaw Malphite Maokai Nocturne Ornn Rammus Shaco Skarner TahmKench Twitch Velkoz Volibear Zac

Female champions (44): Ahri Akali Annie Ashe Caitlyn Camille Cassiopeia Diana Elise Fiora Illaoi Irelia Jinx Kaisa Kalista Karma Katarina Kayle Leblanc Leona Lissandra Lulu Lux MissFortune Morgana Nami Nidalee Orianna Poppy Quinn Riven Sejuani Shyvana Sivir Sona Soraka Syndra Taliyah Tristana Vayne Vi Xayah Zoe Zyra

Genderless/unknown gender, but usually considered female (4): Anivia Evelynn Janna RekSai

True genderless champions (2): Bard Kindred

Edit: Some clarification as to why I made some of these choices. I put every champion without need to sexually reproduce in the genderless category, since they'll likely have no reproductive organs. I know that they are usually referred to as "he" or "she", but I was thinking of biological genders when making this list. That means all demons, demigods, spirits, voidborn, statues, robots, puppets, scarecrows, goo, rocks and death itself are in those categories. Admittedly, I was inconsistent by not including Yordles. I can see why people argue that Rek'Sai is female, but I stand by my other choices.

I just feel like we need more light themed male champions.

TekkenPlayer11/19/2018, 4:04:28 PM4 votes

Refraining from being as toxic as I possibly can from this botched response OP gives. The argument for it is that there are seldom any "light mage" male variant because they are reserved to female champions. Most of the male champions are made extremely edgy or hypermasculine because it sells. It's about as valid as girls complaining hypothetically that there too many females that end up as mary sues.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the quantity of males vs females as a whole.

I am not too sure if this imbalance actually exists, and if it does I wager it's more to do with the fact monster/in-human champs who probably don't even have a concept of gender, are all loosely gendered male (usually by their voice actors) for 1 reason or the other. For a few examples, they include champs like: Fiddlesticks, Nocturne, Blitzcrank, Malphite, etc.

After all, there are only 2 monster champs in the game that is stated to be female, Rek'Sai and Anivia, and 3 if you really have to include Zyra who is technically a "monster" champion but not really. There might be a little bit more than just these couple, but that's what I can immediately think of atm.

If there exists any imbalance, it isn't really to do with male vs female really. But rather, it's probably more to do with why there aren't nearly as many monster champions that are gendered female in the similar fashion as how other monster champs seem to be just defaulted as male.

I think they cry over the fact that it's gonna be another female mage and would like to see a male mage? IDK why it's a problem but apparently, some ppl want more diversity when it comes to mages... SMH

As someone who is into lore, actual gender chart. EVERY SINGLE CHAMPION IS REFFERED TO AS HE OR SHE IN THE LORE. I don't know why some of you guys speak out of your asses and decide to make up your own, x champion is genderless because they make musical sounds. How about read the lore and find out, oh that musical sound creature is referred to as he ALL OVER THEIR OFFICAL LORE. Sorry, it's just people who don't do research and spread false information like that piss me off. Not a sex chart, gender chart. What they are referred to. Otherwise things that can't reproduce would'nt be on here. It's like if you make a male robot, give it a male body and give it a male voice, you consider that robot to have a male gender, but it doesn't have a sex, because it's a robot. It can't make babies. Now that that's out of the way. Also some of the champions will appear twice because they're two champions in one (literally only wolf and lamb aka kindred)

Male: Aatrox Alistar Amumu AurelionSol Azir Bard Blitzcrank Brand Braum Chogath Corki Darius DrMundo Draven Ekko Ezreal Fiddlesticks Fizz Galio Gangplank Garen Gnar Gragas Graves Hecarim Heimerdinger Ivern JarvanIV Jax Jayce Jhin Karthus Kassadin Kayn Kennen Khazix Kindred (wolf) Kled KogMaw LeeSin Lucian Malphite Malzahar Maokai MasterYi Mordekaiser Nasus Nautilus Nocturne Nunu Olaf Ornn Pantheon Pyke Rakan Rammus Renekton Rengar Rumble Ryze Shaco Shen Singed Sion Skarner Swain TahmKench Talon Taric Teemo Thresh Trundle Tryndamere TwistedFate Twitch Udyr Urgot Varus Veigar Velkoz Viktor Vladimir Volibear Warwick MonkeyKing Xerath XinZhao Yasuo Yorick Zac Zed Ziggs Zilean

Female: literally every other champion including kindred yet again for lamb. I don't feel like listing them, it took forever just to do the males. If they look female and sound female they're female (+rek'sai +Anivia).

People are complaining because there are a lot more mages that have positive personalities that are females (i.e Zoe Lux Lulu ) than male champions. In fact, most of the male champions have more stern personalities, and although there are exceptions (Rakan Ezreal ), that doesn't change the fact that there, on average, are more serious male champions while female champions are considered more calm. That's why a lot of us are disappointed at the fact that the new champ is most likely female; We want a happy little in-game Bob Ross.

Instead we get a possible female shape-shifter, and therefore everyone is angery.

Maokai is at very least both female and male, or otherwise female. Despite the lore addressing as her as “he,” maokai tosses saplings and has an endless supply of them. So she either is female, or she can self-pollinate (both male and female).

Lady Sylum11/19/2018, 8:04:55 PM1 votes

It's about range and variety. Quality over quantity. Should there be more female champs? Absolutely, but not if it's going to the the same type over and over again and the same goes for the males.

zoliking11/19/2018, 8:19:07 PM1 votes

#1: The most important thing to take away here: the ratio of male/female champions is completely irrelevant. It's not like champions are applying to Riot to be included in the game and they have discriminatory hiring purposes. The people thinking up champions decide gender based on what would work best with a given concept. The eventual ratio is indicative of nothing, influences nothing and makes no difference in any tangible way to anybody playing the game.

#2: The game is about fighting. An activity that you will notice IRL too is mostly done by males. In general they have are more psychologically predisposed and physically better equipped to fight. That's just biology. If the roster in a game that's about fighting reflects this, how the dick is that a problem?

#3: If the first thing somebody looks at in a new champion is their gender and starts making judgements on that alone, they aren't really much invested in the game at all.

When did all these intersectional cultists infiltrate muh video games? Is the long march through the institutions continuing with League now? This identity politics obsession has to stop... whats next? Are we going to be declaring new champion sexual preferences?
