Depending on the champion, particle recolors can be pretty difficult. (Zac is actually mostly particles, for example).
When we modify content, we look at the whole process that it takes to get something done. For any kind of particle change, the process is something along the lines of:
- Discuss particle changes; get approved.
- ** Change particles** (note: this takes away from other upcoming work, since we didn't slot time for x skin to receive new particles because it was decided we'd only be changing model/texture.)
- Gameplay plays with particles and gives the thumbs up/down on new particles - they let us know if there would be clarity issues, or if the new color makes it read like someone else's skill.
- QA tests new particles - as well as particles on every other skin in x champion's backlog to ensure all particles on all skins are still in tact and working properly. Particle theft is a real thing. D:
While it may seem like the initial work is quick, there's a process that follows to ensure the changes don't break anything (gameplay, or visually).
