this is just a guess but if you look closely at the top of the map you will see what looks like north pole which makes runeterra a continent on northern hemisphere and that means there a lot out there that we dont know about

i can back this up with this threadhttps://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/h1O2atTN-bioluminescence-i-summon-you-because-of-map where rioter said it takes about 4 months for a small military force from noxus to reach demacia , other ppl tried to calculated the distance using historical move speed of medieval armies which is about 15-25 mile per day , which makes the distance between Noxus and Demacia roughly equivalent to the width of USA so either the planet is a dwarf planet or even a habitable moon which explains why the world is small OR its just an average size planet but the map doesnt reveal the rest of it and only revealing one continent

I believe Runeterra is the planet. What you're seeing on the map are the continents of Valoran, Shurima, Ionia, ect. It does seem a bit small. It feels like there would be more south of what we're seeing, as there should be an ice cap on the north and south pole. Its entirely possible that this could just be one side of the planet as well. Unless Riot said that this is all there is to Runeterra, I don't see a reason why there isn't room to theorize about the possibility of other continents. To me, it just looks like the northern hemisphere.

What everybody else is saying is true, Runeterra is a much bigger planet than we've been given full information on (yet). However, what the OP says is ALSO true, there's more to the LoL world than just RuneTerra: as shown by the lore of Malphite who's actually from a monolith outside of the world of RuneTerra

If Runeterra is a world that is on it's own planet, habitable and far away from us. Then it still looks too small to be a planet it just looks like a lost piece of Earth.

I think it has been confirmed that the three continents are not the entirety of Runeterra.

Yes there is, South Shurima is only just the Equator, so yeah, there is more to the south at least.

It's probably going to be like an Elder Scrolls thing, and we won't get to know much about other continents (if at all). Most of the game's focus is around the continent of Tamriel, even though Nirn is quite a bit bigger than that.
