Don't like new splash art artist (fisheye lens style with goofy perspective)

First off clearly the new artists are more skilled than previous ones. However, I dont think he/she/they are always producing better splash art. You know the art I am referring to, the splash art that looks like it was taken with a fisheye lens that produces distorted images of the champions trademarked by massive hands in the foreground, shrapnel flying all over the place, and the champion in some goofy dynamic stance that leaves you wondering what they actually look like.

While the pictures themselves are beautiful I guess I feel like the splash art is supposed to give you a clear image in your head of what the champion looks like. Not how cool they look if s*** was blowing up around them and they take some awkward dynamic pose that leaves them with rubber looking limbs.

Examples of the new art I dislike:

  • New Blitzcrank picture. I am glad I know what his hand looks like... I get it. he grabs stuff..
  • New Renekton.... nice hand...
  • New Ezreal... Nice hand...
  • New Katarina picture... Nice hand... It looks goofy. massive knee. for one of the most iconic figures in LoL, I figured Riot would have not passed this one...
  • New Cho'Gath picture. WTF is going on? where does he begin and end? I dont even know what part of him is in the foreground. Is that his arm or some random spike coming out of him?
  • New Lee Sin... While I could give this one a pass since you can at least see him, and it works for the most part.. Still he just looks goofy when I think the artist was going for 'cool'.

I could list more but I think you get the point. The new artist has a little more cartoony and dynamic 'fisheye lens' style that I just don't like for splash art. What is it with you and hands in the foreground? Please take it down a notch....

Examples of where it was done well:

  • New Shivana. One of my favorite splashes of all time.
  • Azir. Awesome, dynamic but lets you take in the whole champion.
  • New Tristana pic. While the artist changed what tristana looks like (not my favorite, she has gremlin ears... ), it is dynamic yet clearly shows you what the champion looks like.

Just my opinion.. I am tired of seeing good splash art replaced by big hands and rubber limbs that just look goofy. I feel bad for picking on this one artist, but if he would just tone it down a little... he is clearly very talented.

I think poses like Azir and Kalista are the best. Not sure why all the updated splashes for old champs are so actiony when they're pretty happy to leave the actual new champs in relaxed positions.

I agree that new splash arts are kinda replacing good old with new bad one.

The new Shiv splash is pretty bad since it looks like there is a dragon staring at her arse instead of simply writing off the wings as part of her persona and aura.

The new Tris is also bad because the one just before that did everything on a superb level, only to get dumbed down for idk what reason.

I agree Azir's splash is pretty awesome though.

I am most likely not on the same artistic view as yours but I like the detailing of "hands" quite a bit considering hands are directly relating to the concept of "do", which hands in each splash arts details what a champion does, and that serves its purpose well as a splash (if done right ofc).

You may call those goofy posts however I find them dynamic. The only ones I actually agree with in your list of "weird splash" are the Lee's and Kat's, rest seems pretty solid to me.

EDIT: Not to mention when you complain about the size of the hands, besides Kat all the others have legit reasons to have big hands (for Ez it's left hand).

{quoted}the champion in some goofy dynamic stance that leaves you wondering what they actually look like.

This is my biggest gripe. So many of the action poses get so ridiculous that I'm left wondering what the action is even supposed to be.

I agree with your core idea but completely completely disagree with your examples, you picked some splashes that are actually great. Thing is, I think you're mistaking that just because a lot of the new splash art is playing with perspective, it's all just one artist - it's definitely several artists. The Blitz is a different artist from the EZ who is a different artist from the Kat. And some of the artists that don't play a lot with perspective are still making splashes, which is why Azir, Gnar, Kalista, Rek'Sai all look pretty normal.

The Blitz/EZ/Renekton/Cho splash arts are all great. It's okay for Blitz's fist to be huge - maybe the perspective is slightly exaggerated, but it puts emphasis on his core ability/theme, I have no problems with this one. Then the Ez fist, it's NOT out of proportion imo, this artist draws things taking into account foreground/background/perspective a lot, but I think he does it well/in good taste http://su-ke.deviantart.com/gallery/38817906/League-Of-Legends. The EZ splash is really great, I don't see how you don't like it, I think you're extending your hate of the big hand to cases where it actually works. I think the Veigar one is a good example for your argument, there's this HUGE emphasis on his hand when it's not a core part of Veigar, just a random huge hand playing with perspective cause I feel like it. I think the guy who made that one is the same artist as the Blitz one.
