Yordles Are From Space?

I completely understand your position on the matter of yordles' reception by the general public; I think my summoner name should be a dead giveaway on how much I adore yordles (one in particular, of course) and I agree that they should be regarded as a more serious force in the world of Runeterra.

Yordles are small, furry, jovial little creatures that nonetheless are capable of matching the brightest minds of Valoran ( ) its fiercest fighters ( ) mystical of mages ( ) and most renowned sharpshooters ( ). Yordles may act silly, but when push comes to shove, these diminutive beings are no joke.

Personally, I would not be distraught if the Mothership was removed entirely and any reference to it. Doing so would solidify the yordles' place on Runeterra. However, I do entertain notions of keeping the spaceship and having the progenitors of the yordle species be part of a larger menagerie that was housed on the ship, and when the ship crashed they escaped. Think, John Carpenter's The Thing: these apparently harmless creatures broke loose, became enraged, and as our good friend Gnar shows, transformed into hulking brutes, severely damaging the ship and forcing it down onto Runeterra.

As I said, I would not be bothered at all if the Mothership was removed, but there are some who would. Now the issue of yordles lacking a serious reputation and being perceived as a bunch of sentient gerbils is a problem with the fanbase and Riot, should they choose to perpetuate that illusion. As you noted, Heimerdinger and Tristana shed some of the goofy disposition typical of yordles, so Riot is clearly interested in moving them away from purely being a joke, and honestly I feel Riot never looked at them that way.

Teemo has always been a cold-blooded killer with shades of PTSD. Rumble has always been a blatant racist. Sure, Veigar is a joke, but he can still turn someone into a smoking crater with a snap of his fingers, and is happy to do so. Lulu is a borderline amoral sociopath. Heck, Bandle City is one mountain range from the most dangerous locations in Valoran: Icathia, Kumungu Jungles, and besides Zaun, they are the closest city-state to Noxus, and incredibly martial nation. That they have not fallen to the Noxus/Zaunite war machine is a testament to the ferocity of Bandle City's citizens.

Yordles are funny, but the only ones treating them as a joke are the players.

I'm just really not a big fan of the Mothership and what it implies about Yordles. I know Yordles are supposed to be the jokey, not so serious race of Runeterra, but coming from space on the Mothership like campy aliens just feels like slapping them all in the face. I'd rather they be rid of the whole idea of the Mothership, but of course that's only my opinion.

I know people love the super goofy side of Yordles. For me though I despise when even if something's goofy there's absolutely nothing serious about them in any way in a setting that's got seriousness. If League was a total goof fest then I wouldn't bat an eye, but it doesn't seem fair to me that everyone else can be cool and Yordles just have to be a joke all the time. It's why I love the Tristana and Heimer VUs, because even though they're still goofy in some ways they're so much more than just that.

That got wordy real quick. Sorry for the long spiel, I just really wanna see Yordles be more than a joke, and I kinda just despise the Mothership as a result. It's like me with Taric and how I hate TaricXEzreal jokes. Blegh.

We've got , even is a goof and he tries VERY hard to be a hardcore super villain. If you'd to write a hardcore, grimdark as warhammer 40,000 novel (and hey we just got Graham Mcneil on the Riot writing staff!) with these characters it would be...difficult. Now, even 40k cant be grimdark serious all the time, it's why they have Orks. (but dont tell an ork that, he'll krump ya good)
