Why are there no Dwarves in Runeterra?

T4R, I know yordles could technically count. However I see them as more akin to halflings/gnomes than dwarves. Has the champion design team ever thought about creating a dwarf champion?

On a slightly unrelated subject; I'd want to see a champion who suffers from actual dwarfism, just because I feel like it'd be interesting.

I was going to post a sarcasm heavy response about diversity and variety must have a reason exist in LoL but I got too angry and lazy to continue. Just look at the blow back about asking for an old crone champ for Riots response on the matter.

Well you can easily make the reason; dwarfism is a medical condition that can affect humans. Anyone in Runeterra could potentially have a form of dwarfism. It's not like it's necessary for the sake of the game, I just thought it'd be interesting because it's something we don't often see. I mean look at Tyrion Lannister; super cool character who's also a dwarf.

I don't see why they wouldn't. They already have a character that suffered from gigantism. At least I assume that's the explanation for Sion.

Probably because the moment you put dwarves in a fantasy setting, people start comparing it to Tolkien (same with elves really). Fantasy settings can be different from Tolkien like settings, and as much as I like dwarves, I am fine with no dwarf races in league.

Now a champion with dwarfism however, that is a different story.

Agreed, Dwarves and elves tend to make the universe look like overused and bland. Runeterra has it's own variation on the subject; Yordles, though creatures that right now feels more like Gnomes or similar Fae creatures rather than pure fantasy dwarves.

LoL seems more interested in creating their own types of creatures. The exceptions are usually old champions like Trundle, Morgana, Kayle, and Nunu or eastern legends influenced champions like Ahri or Wukong, and I guess dragons like Shyvana and Sol which can be taken as new creatures of old legends depending on how you look at them.

While yeah, dwarves are pretty awesome, I can respect wanting to stay clear of the fantasy trio: dwarves, elves, and orcs.

I do wish they went more in depth with creatures that are not yordles, humans, and void monsters though. I rather like monstrous races, having 3-4 unique trolls would be neat. I suppose we're going to get about 5 Darkin eventually. But I've never particularly cared for vaguely immortal mystical magic things. I'd rather fewer God-dragons, vengeance spirits, and the like and more things like trolls. But that's just me. No reason not to have both.

Well Gragas looks a lot like a dwarf. Sure he is a bit taller than a dwarf,but in terms of appearance it fits perfectly(I think gragas was originally even supposed to be a dwarf)

True story: The day I got out of bot matches, I saw his original icon and picked him cause I thought he was a dwarf.

When I started playing LoL and saw Nautilus I actually assumed he was dwarf based on his splash art. I dunno why,he just looked so tiny with his small legs(and I never bothered to read his title),so when I saw him ingame I was actually surprised to see how big he is(and felt kind dumb when I took a second look at him and read his title xD)
