Is The League still canon?

With all the new lore for the Zaunite and Piltover champions, I've noticed something missing from all their new lore: it never mentions why or how they joined the League. This isn't just somethin I've noticed with them but rather every champion that's been released since Yasuo, it's like the League isn't existent in their world anymore. Are summoners still in place? Is Summoner's Rift still canon? Is the League of Legends still even there?

In the new, current, canon lore, and this is just from my perspective, but it looks like now we just have all these very interesting people(and other things) that have nothing to do with each other all in the same place, fighting each other for no reason. Is the League still a force that's meant to keep Runeterra from starting another Rune War? Is the Noxian Invasion of Ionia still canon? Just what exactly from the old lore is still canon?

For example, with Janna's new lore, if the League is still canon she has literally no reason to be apart of it. In her new lore she's a benevolent spirit that protects the people of Zaun. In the lore, The League is meant to be a peace keeping force between the various nations of Valoran, with each nation sending people to represent them as champions on the Fields of Justice. Of course, The League is also responsible for housing dangerous creatures and artifacts, such as Nocturne, Brand, and all the champions from the Void, to keep them from destroying the world. If this is still canon then why is Janna a champion when she seems like one of the last things the League would be after, and how would Zaun get her to join the League if they don't even know how to contact her? Did she just float up to the League and ask to become a champion?

Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm actually very happy with all the new lore. Now all these characters have depth and purposes, motivations behind them, it's just now it's left us with the question of how and why did they join the League? Like, none of the champions from Shurima have a single reason to be a champion of the League.

No, is not. The league, summoners, IoW and anything related with that is not canon anymore, the game itself is not canon as well and the champions are not fighting there.

Read the coments below, there is a hidden comment due downvotes that was made by Riot. The comment is an answer to that:

The question:

So can we get a solid, 100% certain, that Summoners, the Institute, and all of that is no longer canon? This is nice and all, but it's only vague hints about what a lot of people want to hear. If you guys do indeed just want to start the narrative over, I completely stand by your choice to do so, but this transition so far is being handled somewhat awkwardly, and it'd be nice to know what really counts as "old lore" and "new lore".

Good question! No, Summoners, the Fields of Justice and the Institute are not canon within the fictional world of Runeterra. In-game, players are still referred to as summoners - but summoners won't be part of the story.

However, i will answer a question that you made: _ "Is the Noxian Invasion of Ionia still canon? Just what exactly from the old lore is still canon?"_

The Noxian Invasion is canon, and Ionia won, Kled in facts mentions it in his dialogue. Kled "Yeah, yeah, invade Ionia you said, it'll be fine you said!" http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/a/a3/Kled.moveMount53.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160729193125 Skaarl growls Kled "Fine, you said!" http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/3/3f/Kled.moveMount54.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160729193125

What is canon from the old lore? Anything that does not contradict the new lore if we remove the IoW and Summoners. For example, the old lore of GP about killing his father is canon even if he was updated (this was confirmed by Riot).

"Of course, The League is also responsible for housing dangerous creatures and artifacts, such as Nocturne, Brand, and all the champions from the Void, to keep them from destroying the world."

This is a valid reason to be worried about the "deletion" of the League, however, some of those champions have not been updated yet, which means that they "dont exist" for now (but they will when riot update their lores). Renekton for example is not imprisoned anymore and its free looking for his brother in order to kill him. Brand in other hand fought against Renekton and Nasus... and even Lissandra, so its safe to assume that he is imprisoned for now (and he wasnt that strong in the old lore because Lux, Garen and a summoner defeated him). Some creatures of the Void are being killed by Kassadin and the warriors of Targon (Diana) and some are roaming free in Shurima (like Reksai) or other places (Kumungu in the case of Khazix)

And about the artifacts... that is job of Bard and Ryze. They are actually the ones making the job of the league in the new lore.
