Big theory. Please read

So we all know that Ornn, Volibear, Anivia and The Seal Sister are siblings. We know that Ornn and Volibear are rival brothers who have extreme power beyond any other known entities of Runeterra aside from Aurelian sol. Ornn literally maintains the core temperature of Runeterra, preventing the planet from going cataclysmic. Volibear controls the sky, maintains weather and atmospheric stability. Anivia is the buffer between the two and serves as the cycle between death and birth and rebirth.

I have two theories today.

First theory involves the connection between the Freljord and Shurima and mount targon. My theory is that Ornn was the weapon smith for all the weapons for the Shuriman and Targonian gods. It also being known that Ornn, Volibear and Anivia protect the Freljord and value its people above all else is evidence to me that they didn’t just sit around while Aatrox invaded the Freljord. I highly doubt that they did nothing while he slaughtered tribe after tribe to prep tryndamere to be his new vessel.

My second theory is that Ornn is protecting a world Rune.

For anyone who’s done the research on Ornn, we all know that he’s a very introverted fellow and he doesn’t tend to do things for others out of joy for being a neighborly friend. So why did Ornn help protect the Freljord from the Watchers? (void born beings) I believe it’s because he knew that they were coming for the world rune. A quote from the official lore explains it.

"Far beyond the known lands of Valoran, in the deepest, darkest spaces beneath the world, even the mythical Watchers are drawn to the power of the World Runes…"

After Ornn finished the howling abyss, the battle took place. The Freljord won and the watchers were thrown into the abyss. (Deepest, Darkest places beneath the world.)

The rune that Ornn is protecting is at a place where only he can go, beneath hearth home. This makes total sense. In Ornn’s lore, it explains how the planet bestowed him with the power of Runeterra flame, the magma core of the planet. “Ornn thanked the land for the glorious match. The land responded by opening a fiery pit, showing him its very heart, and he was honored to see it was a reflection of him: a fiery ram. The land had deemed Ornn worthy, and bestowed its secrets to him, gifting him the strength of primordial flame, for fire is the true agent of change.” This explains it all. The Ram shaped reflection and the gift of the primordial flame was more than just a gift. The planet chose Ornn to protect one of the world runes. Another quote from the lore may be all the evidence needed to prove that the Freljordian gods are related to the shuriman and targonic gods.

“Ornn was the firstborn of his brothers and sisters. He leapt into the world, itching for a fight.” Note that it says plural brothers. That’s may be a the link to Nasus, renekton and the other ascended. I realize that the ascended were mortal before ascension, however mythical pantheons of gods have entities labeled as siblings despite their entirely different origins. It also says that Ornn was itching for a fight. That doesn’t sound like the Ornn that we know from the other stories and from in game quotes. Ornn after he settled down in hearth home became introverted and secluded. I think he had to settle down in hearth home because he couldn’t risk leaving the rune without protection. Protecting the world rune became his new purpose.

One other thing. People are discussing what destroyed the Yggdrasil (The world tree). A voice line from Ornn literally explains everything. Ornn says “I once made a harpoon out of a mountain and a world tree, that was a weird century.”

I’m wondering if the “harpoon” is an allusion for something involving Mt.Targon (The mountain) and the Yggdrasil (The world tree)

*laughs in Xerath *

Xerath is a sad ball of arcane energy. He is an ant compared to the Freljordian gods.

Ohh sweet summer child...

Aatrox KILLED (not defeated, killed) spirit gods (beings like Ornn) in the past. Xerath is at least one level above Aatrox.

I won't stop you from saying they are pretty close in power level but saying Xerath would lose to Ornn blindly is just hilarious. Which even Rioters say "Our ascended champions are powerful enough to fight toe to toe with any demigods in the setting." That "Aspects and the Ascended are so close in power level."

Xerath turns humans to ashes completely in a heartbeat (which is not even a direct arcanopulse or arcane barrage, it is just because he pulls them near to his body), melts bronzes by just floating near. Said by mutiple rioters that death of Xerath might mean end of Shurima continent.

He contains so much power he shines brighter than Sun Disc ever did.

That really makes no sense. He made from the sun disc which means he can’t be “brighter” than it. The shuriman gods barely were able to fight against the void, and as we all know, the fight corrupted several of the ascended (Rhaast, Varus, Aatrox and presumably even more) As I’ve stated before, the void can’t destroy true ice, it has to corrupt it and that takes YEARS. Ornn however can melt true ice by his mere presence. He probably created the Chalicar and he isn’t stuck in a physical form, he and his brethren are more or less omnipotent. Read Gnar’s lore, he was witnessing his kind get slaughtered by void spawn and Anivia without even being there, froze him in true ice. She just knew he was going to die and she kept him alive to fight in the coming war. I also mentioned Ornn’s quote about the harpoon he made out of Mountain and the world tree. He’s clearly referencing Mt.Targon and the Yggdrasil. I will acknowledge how powerful xerath is, but until riot pulls their head out of their asses and actually finishes lore they started, I’m sticking with my theory. Because they still haven’t updated volibear’s lore even though his biography page and Ornn’s biography page don’t add up. Like seriously riot has got to be pumping cocaine through their ventilation system or something.

Xerath is smaller than Sun Disc you know right? He is denser than Sun Disc.

“The Butcher of the Sands will have his due,” said Xerath, his form blazing brighter than the sun disc ever had. Rocks and dust tumbled from above. “And I will be there to watch him claw the meat from your bones.”

Myisha says for darkins they killed each other more than the Void did and lore clearly says darkins were bigger threat for Runeterra so far... Void isn't something you must be ashamed when you struggle against to fight either. Pretty sure freljordian gods did not encounter the true horrors of the Void same as the Ascended did.

And I mean c'mon, it is already said by Aatrox's and Zoe's writer that Aatrox as an ascended killed "spirit gods like Ornn". What are you gonna do? Deny?

And by Scathlocke "the Ascended are powerful enough to go toe to toe with any demigods in the setting."

You just overestimate freljordian gods and severely underestimate the Ascended.

Void > Watchers also. Watchers are the one corrupting true ice. Not the Void. Void would erase it quicker than it takes me to write this sentence.

Ahahhahahahahahahahaha. No. Xerath is an extremly powerfull Ascended. He almost 1 shotted Nasus while holding back cause he didn't want to kill him. He was winning against renekton and Nasus at their prime, while he was at his weakest since he Ascended just minutes before. He absorbed the power of the entire SUNDISC (well the SunDisc seems to recharge automatically since it Ascended Azir, who is also an extremly powerfull Ascended rn). His death would be catastrophic and would mean the ending of half the continent of Shurima (which is why I think if Azir wins he is just gonna imprison Xerath or banish him).

Look the Demigos would surely protect Freljord but we dont truly know how Aatrox came to Tryndamere and how he corrupted him its still somewhat undiscussed... My theory is that Aatrox didnt attract enough attention for the Gods to want to be involved especially Anivia since she truly connects to the Lands (senses Lissandra)...

Honestly I do think that Ornn is protecting a world rune but you must know the Watchers are the final Evil that Runeterra faces and while they can surely extinguish Runeterra without the world runes, the runes surely do grant them more power so that satisfaction is probably what the Watchers are after ( nobody can have too much power) and Ornn maybe understands that and thats why he made the Bridge... To ensure theyre sealed

BronzeArchon1 votes

Yup. I agree. Ornn made the bridge simply because he wanted to and the 3 sisters happened to ask him to make one. However, I don’t think that him, Volibear and Anivia are as secluded and clueless as the lore makes them appear to be.

I can with confidence that the Shuriman gods are feeble compared to the Freljordian Gods though. The Freljordian gods are much larger, and we’re on runeterra before any other living beings. Not to mention, the “small” fight that Ornn and Volibear had caused an entire cataclysm. The lore never states the full extent of the damage, but it’s safe to say it’s probably pretty massive.

I mean, Ornn’s mear presence melts true ice. No other being can affect true ice. It takes the void years to corrupt it into black ice.

Agree on everything.. I hope that The Demogids will be a part of the comic issues that are being released to further know their extent of power

Oh yeah. As soon as I heard that Ashe is getting a comic, I knew it would most likely expand on her relationship with Anivia and thus expand on the lore with Ornn and Volibear as well.
