Just a thought: Death of the Summoners

Now, a lot of champions are attached to the old Lore, in ways that make their adjustments hard to swallow. But, what I want to know from you guys, if you can put yourself in that old Lore frame of mind for a little bit, what would to Runeterra if instead of the retcon removing the existence of League of Legends, the removal was part of the story?

How Summoners used to be but now aren't. How Summoner's Rift is the only true remnant of the old days, aged to reflect what it was then and now.

Would certain champions exist? Would certain factions still exist? How would the fall begin?

I'm thinking this now because I feel the retcon has potential, but there was too much space for them to do what they're doing now and NOT call a retcon. In short, transition to what they're doing.
