What's the point of League?

Okay, small jokes aside, if I remember my lore right, the League of Legends was supposed to be a democratic solution mostly for the warring nations (Demacia, Noxus) to not wreck the world with their fighting. Other guys not related to those nations join for their reasons, sure.

But then there's champs like whose backstory is told through who I assume to be Rengar's POV, and has no reason to join the League. So what's the point of some of these champions, to the point of the League of Legends now?

You're a bit behind. The lore is being retconned; the Institute of War never existed anymore. Summoners may or may not exist but they have no primary role as of yet. The League of Legends is, effectively, just the title of the game now. It is totally disconnected from the lore.

Which is why many champions (long before Gnar was even announced) have lore that has nothing to do with the Institute of War in the past year or two.

Riot removed the League, so instead of having compelling back stories for their champions they could just make ridiculous champion concepts then have them created because their story would never matter.

TL:DR Riot got lazy, didn't want to put work into actually creating interesting champions or a lore to show for, so instead they scrapped everything.

Sadly, the lore you remember is no more.

Riot retconned Runeterra and erased the lore that you are familiar with.

They re-worked the lore specifically to avoid having to tie every champion into the League. Some players are not particularly understanding regarding this decision.

The retcon removed all the lore that happened before the Shurima event. Freljord event was also retconed into nonexistance
