Centralization: Bringing the champions together

There's one thing about this lore rework that has been bugging me for a very long time. It's really not the idea of champion lore re-works (although it's tied into the issue), nor is it the state of the world. It's the idea about League of Legends; in particular, the champions that fight together in (name your favorite map here).

Think about it like this: Faction-wise, Demacia and Noxus hate each other, right? So what reasons is there now, what forces exist that would put guys like J4 JarvanIV and Swain Swain together in one team? Why would Garen Garen and Darius Darius be placed together? If they were, what would stop them from tearing each other apart on sight? I could accept that they could be on the same team, but not work together: Lux : Hey Katarina, why didn't you help us back there? Garen and Galio died! Katarina : Because fuck you, that's why. NOXUS 4 LIFE!!! (a little silly, but you get the idea I hope)

This extends more beyond those factions: Rivals in general, especially those who are on a "want to kill each other" level of relationship. What would stop Renekton Renekton from going after Nasus Nasus if they were on the same team? It's that concept that's been bothering me.

In the old lore, it was explained to a degree that these champions didn't exactly make the decision of working together, and whatever forces existed in the League of Legends/Institute of War stopped these guys from tearing their own teammates apart. But now...it makes no sense.

I could make assumptions as to why that is, but I really hope that this part of lore is what gets explained soon.

Obviously you dont get the fact that the game League of Legends is very loosely connected to the lore of League of Legends (our team compositions are not a canon thing anymore). The thing you stated is one of the reasons why the retcon happened.

Why would Garen Garen and Darius Darius be placed together?

To save Katarina?

I always understood Summoner's Rift to just be a representation of the struggles of power. In a lot of fantasy literature, there are situations where the enemy of my enemy is my friend. On the other side of the coin, I doubt the folks over on the Noxus side could always control Sion.

p.s. With the old lore, a Kat + Lux team up wouldn't have been totally ludicrous. Kat has to get close to Garen somehow...

This is from the bard Q&A

This is actually a question I struggled with a lot making his kit. What brought him to Summoner's Rift? Why is he fighting? He can travel through dimensions, how can he ever LOSE?

The answer is that Summoner's Rift is just an idea, it's a stage to present the abbreviated stories and personalities of these characters who belong to a larger, longer story.

Well, I imagine it will be scenarios like Cassiopeia and Sivir. This won't work in every case, and perhaps opposite faction champs won't ever Team up. I am more interested in their individual stories and even their antagonistic interactions rather than their teamwork.

I think another point is that certain champs simply live too far away from each other. I mean why would Sejuani ever team up with Tristana? Both live basically on opposite sites of Valoran and are busy enough in their homeland.

This makes a very valid point.

Anyway, there is a thing called teeth-clenched teamwork which happens every night when someone instalocks Darius and everyone is forced to tolerate him.
