Varus' lore changes were completely unnecessary

Varus' changes in the lore were completely unnecessary and as a member of the LGBT community, I feel pandered to and that offends me.

Let's start with Varus' original lore. He was a man who had to choose between saving his family from the Noxian invasion or protecting his people from a corruption in a pit. He chose to protect his people and lost his family as a result. In response, he turned to the corruption, turned it inside of him, and now uses that power to hunt down the Noxians who killed his family.

His new lore has him start as two gay monster hunters. One gets horribly injured and the other takes him to a temple, hoping its powerful magic will heal his lover. What the temple was actually for was to contain a Darkin, which then dragged them into its prison, killed them both and made a body out of theirs. Now that Darkin, Varus, seeks to destroy all of humanity in revenge for purging his kind from Runeterra. But somehow, the two gay monster hunters did not die, but were instead reborn in Varus' head, and they now fight for control of the new body.

Already there are a few problems with the new lore. For one, Varus does not look like the other Darkin. At all. We don't know for sure what Aatrox's body originally was, so I'm going to leave him out of this. The other Darkin that we know for certain took control of a human is Rhaast, and he has horns, red skin that looks like muscle, and black outcropping-esque things on his arms, chest, and shoulder. He also wears the same pants as Kayn, suggesting that the Darkin to not have the power to manifest clothing. Varus, on the other hand, has a pale white chest and face, and black legs resembling pants. These legs are reminiscent, at least to me, of the corruption in Terraria. This is also seen on his forearms. The worst part is that he has a headband and a cloak. This would be forgivable if either of the hunters were wearing these when their bodies were taken, but they were not. That suggests that the Darkin can manifest clothing. That is bad storytelling because it is inconsistent.

The next problem is that they hunters still exist. How? How and why do they still exist? One of the most powerful Shadow Magicians (Kayn) ever was beaten by a Darkin. Its been theorized that shadow magic is the gateway to soul magic. This is evidenced by Kayn's ability to go inside of people. he obviously does not take physical form inside of them, but instead inhabits their soul. This shows that Kayn is beginning to know soul magicks and is probably the best candidate to beat Rhaast in the entire lore. But he can still lose. The hunters, on the other hand, survive because "muh LGBT representation."

This brings me to the final point I will bring up in this post. I feel pandered to and that is not right. Like Riot is saying, "Here's an LGBT character. Now shut up." I would not feel this way if the hunters were killed (like they should have been). If the being(s) Varus originally took over were gay, but he killed them, i would feel better. Why? Because the characters would not have felt so shoehorned in there for no reason other than "muh LGBT representation." Or if they had just made a whole new character gay, or changed a character like Fiora to be gay. That would be better because it actually makes sense for Fiora or a new character to be gay.

TL;DR, Varus' new lore brings up even more questions about the Darkin, showing several large inconsistencies that ruin the whole story. The Fact that he is gay feels like pandering to the LGBT community when there are better options for representation available.

One, I am sorry you feel pandered too. Two, I don't know if it was pandering on purpose or not (I want to say slightly).

I appreciate your points. I will say, the WORST part about this is it is no longer a talk about if the story is good. So many discussions now instantly devolve into gay. Idc if they wanted to make him gay (give old Varus a husband). But it is sad because I feel so many people have lost all objectivity.

Some people, yea they truly enjoy it. I am sure a lot did even. It LOOKS great. But the story is not =\ it was rushed, no development. But for some reason any topic devolves into 'gay' or homophobe.

It shows that adding a gay character is difficult. But not because of the gay character, or even gay haters. I think it is tough because people will focus on that one aspect instead of the character.
