Something else that I have just noticed about it, is that the golden-colored portions of his shell are (once you enlarge it) obviously non-organic metal. His current model textures make those portions look like natural transitions in the plate material, but still organic and something that is part of Rammus. With the borders of the plates now being crafted metal, it gives the impression that, although the spikes on the suit are clearly organic, perhaps the entire shell is actually a piece of crafted armor made from the harvested hide of some other being... and I don't like that implication at all. It is Rammus' shell, he is an armordillo, not an armor-wearing-dillo. Yes, he wears crafted armor, but that only covers his soft spots, it isn't his entire set.
Perhaps the metalwork is just crafted embellishments applied to his natural shell, but it definitely doesn't read that way to me.
I think the artist did an amazing job, the detail and texturing of his skin and spikes is amazing, my only concerns are with the theme-ing of the piece, rather than its execution.
