I'd start with your favorite champion and their bio and/or story. From there just branch out into the regions and other champions that you are interested in.

If you enjoy more traditional somewhat medieval type places, Demacia and Noxus are good to check out. Lots of swords and war. Demacia is very "traditional" sense of Justice orientated, aesthetics are generally fairly sleek and rich looking, lots of marble whites and gold trimmings. Very anti-magic. Noxus is supposed to be the opposite of Demacia, aesthetic wise much darker and more brutal. Is open to different ways of conquering, which is their main goal.

If you enjoy magic and nature, Ionia is the place for you. A lot of mystical creatures of all sorts, the people try to live harmoniously with the land and the magic that runs through the land.

If you enjoy more tech orientated things, Piltover and Zaun are the places for you. Lots of "hextech" stuff which is basically magical steam punk stuff. Piltover is classy, golden and rich, Zaun is crusty, toxic green and poor.

Shurima as a whole is fairly badass and self explanatory I think.

Targon is kinda crazy, mix of space people, void, and traditional people.

Some champs have an out-of-date lore. Garen Nidalee . Generally the newer the champion's rework/release the more sophisticated and canon their lore is. There is this one really great Youtuber name Necrit and he does narritives for champion bios and short stories as well as some juicy theories. https://www.youtube.com/user/Necrit94

Definitely start with your favorite champion and their location/allegiance. Then explore everyone and everything related. Continue until you are lore freak.

For example read Katarina's bio. That might get you to read Talon's and Cassiopeia's. Cassio is closely related to Sivir, Azir and other Shuriman champions so maybe you would be interested in this one too? That might bring you to Darkin lore. Or maybe Zaun which was found by Shurimans. And that is related to Piltover, right?

Or start with Katarina and continue to Garen, everybody knows about their secret love. That might bring you to Demacia which has amazing lore. And there is petricide forest in the heart of this kingdom, who is using it and why? It's up to you to find out.

Or start with Katarina and read Noxus story. That could bring you to Ionia. And to Vastaya from there. Who are Vastaya? And which champions are Vastaya? Or maybe you would be more interested in Lee Sin's Freljord friend? Who is it? And who else is from Freljord? Try to find out!

LoL lore is suprisingly detailed and amazing.

Vist the Universe site, go to the Regions tab. Pick literally any region except Bandle City and Yordles or any of the Void monsters, as almost all of them have outdated lore (Except Poppy, Kled, Rek'sai, Vel'koz, Malza & Kass are all canon). Then do as you please while exploring those pages at your own pace.

The most difficult part of being brand new to League's lore is understanding and noticing what lore isnt canon and what is. Because not every champion has their lore updated (hence the recomendation not to bother with Yordle stuff for the time being). Even more confusing for new comers is some regions have been updated but only half the roster of champs were updated while the other half still waits (hence why Vel'koz and Rek'sai are the only two Voidborn with canon lore).

If you go to the explore tab in the Universe website, you can find an archive of short stories, comics and videos. No bios there, but all of it should be canon. At least, most of it. Probably still best to go ahead and read through bios of champions in different regions, but that option is there. Also, take your time with the lore. There is a lot to get through and there is no need to rush through it all.

Side note, Bilgewater is completely up to date and has 6 audio dramas about Nautilus, Fizz, Tahm Kench and Pyke that are really nice if you want something easy to start on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wj21zLtgAA&list=PLbAFXJC0J5GZOzHeeZgyz4wWxP3z-4ulz

Bilgewater also has 2 of the longest stories in the lore so far, "Burning Tides" and "Shadow and Fortune" so heads up, those two are really long.

I suggest you to go on the Universe Website and to check the World Map

All I can suggest is to read as much stories as possible. That's the best way to go deeply into the lore. Some champions don't have their bios and stories updated yet so it might get changed in the future.

Many people already said to you to go to your favorite champions go by regions etc But I want to suggest you to check the map: https://map.leagueoflegends.com/en_US this isn't just a map but also a base for the wordlbuilding of the entire(known) Runeterra, it really helps you to get in the lore with descrptions of the culture, technology, history etc of each region, search for things at the map really helps you to get into the world of Runeterra.

If the map don't works at first try to refresh the page one or two times and it probally will work.

If you play Kat, I recommend reading the other Du Couteau members lore Cassiopeia Talon . Their lore have been slowly falling out of date and they don't mention each other much in their bio.
