Ekko' time rewind

TyroneWatermelon··2 votes·5,001 views

Hello riot, after reading many ekko facts, watching the cinematic and reading riot comments I can't figure out something; In what way ekko rewinds his time? Does he rewind his own time stream? Or does he rewinds the entire galaxy's timeline? Or maybe a small area going back in time? Does he explore other dimensions?if yes,how does he come back? In the cinematic and comic he rewinds the entire even back, both Ajuna and the killer, and that Robot thing. Does that affect entire Runeterra?

You can think of his Time Machine like an anchor. It sets a position both temporally and spatially and when Ekko flicks the switch on his hand, he returns to that location + time.

This is pretty accurate. Nice job. The anchor imagery is about what we landed on.

Thanks :P You're the one who wrote Ekko's character correct? You, Gypsy and Edmundo did an excellent job. Easily my favorite Champ along with Kindred. If you mind me asking, within the canon can Ekko actually perform his in-game abilities? Can he "do" the W and E? Does he have the Timewinder? Can he speed himself up? I'm an Ekko main, gotta know these things if you want to have the edge over the opponent you know? Psychological victory.

No, thank you! I also worked on Kindred and on [SOON FOR REALS]. Indeed, in story, Ekko can use his abilities. There were a few sketches I wrote that broached how this would look/feel to people around him. Onlookers would most likely see a bruised kid suddenly take down an opponent by exploiting every weakness.

A big key thing to understand about Ekko is that his Z-Drive doesn't always work the way he wants it to, mostly owing to the fact that it's homemade hex-tech that runs on the exotic properties of a shattered crystal.

In terms of Parallel Convergence, (story wise) is what happens when you wrinkle time too much -- sometimes it tears and your parallel self lends a hand to seal the breach. I mean, he's the boy who shattered time. That can have some unintended consequences.

With Phase Dive, Ekko basically blinks out of the timeline, returning at opportune moments.

As you can tell, he's probably made (and broken) a few Z-Drives.

The Timewinder feeds off his Z-Drive. However, he initially designed it to have an entirely different function -- probably a smoke or flash bomb -- but... it didn't quite work as intended. In fact, Ekko's sort of unsure about how it works, but it works reliably enough (and with no lingering effects) for him to be cool with chucking it around all willy-nilly.

Thanks for making me think about this stuff. One of my 2016 goals is to write Ekko a long bio, and you're inspiring me to put it before my other work that has deadlines (because I am a triple-A rated procrastinator -- heck I'm supposed to be making my wife bolognese for dinner at the moment).

You worked on Kindred too? Jeez you literally have two of the most well received Champs lore + character wise under your belt. Thanks for all the info on how canonically correct his Kit is. Ekko's quote ""Let me be honest - I have no idea what I'm doing." makes a whole lot more sense now. I'm glad that I've inspired you to continue working on a long Lore for Ekko, definitely looking forward too it. Hope you do something involving him and Kindred one day, would be interesting to see how they would react to Ekko's shenanigans (or maybe Zilean. I can imagine Ekko causing another tear in time, it appearing as a blip somewhere on one of Zilean's machines and him just going "Kid's at it again...").

I do want to ask you just one more question though, have you guys at Riot ever thought of doing an official weekly webcomic in order to expand League's lore? Something like the old "Dawngate Chronicles". Chronobreak and the Poppy comic were extremely successful and it would be great to have more of that.

"I also worked on Kindred and on [SOON FOR REALS]", Ao Shin? Is it you my friend? Have they let you out of the ice box?

A Kindred/Ekko crossover would be interesting, as it's been stated that the one thing Ekko can't rewind is death. Very interesting to see Ekko face his mortality in some way. Ah, to be young and have that feeling of invincibility.

SOON FOR REALS is a reference to my next, soon-to-be-announced champ. Take from that what you will, but I am tight lipped (and very excited) about my slate of champs.

Well I'm looking forward to the lore and VO of the champion after Jhin then!

Wait he can't undo Death? As in his own death or the death of others? I mean if he dies then obviously there's no one to flip the switch so it's basically "gg". However, if lets say someone fell off a Bridge and died and Ekko just so happened to anchor himself prior to them falling, couldn't he just go back and stop the fall? Or would the body just drop dead after the rewind because Kindred doesn't take any of that nonsense?

Think it was a movie version of The Time Machine (HG Wells) where he kept going back trying to save his loved one, but she kept dying at the same time, every time, but in different ways/places.

I could imagine that kinda working with Kindred. Ekko keeps going back and finding lamb already standing over the person. Then eventually wolf. Finding them in different places, depending on what he tried to change to prevent it. With more and more gruesome deaths each time. Also Kindred remembering Ekko and having a conversation with him over the different rewinds. 'Still trying, eh?' 'He/she is already ours.' (wolf)'YES, YES, keep struggling, we'll come for you soon.'

Though this probably needs better plot points..or it'll kinda be a little too close to his Chronobreak comic. Or it could be a part 2 of it...

Or to go with a morally darker story, Ekko eventually having to choose between himself and (friend), and he chooses to save himself.

if so his time rewind should also remove debuffs. chronoshift

Not all bad effects are removed in the cinematic. When he got punched in the face, when he went back, he held his jaw. So he carries a bit of the past timeline with him when he goes back. So, buffs, or good things, could go back with him too.

Also, lore wise is not the same as gameplay, at all. So fairly moot point.

He still feels the pain of being hit.

I'm curious as to what the extent of this would be, is it any non-fatal injury? Say, for example, he got his leg/arm/whatever cut off, but was still able to utilize the Z-Drive, he would be back in shape, but be in immense pain, as if he still had said injury? If so, do you figure it would be odd to use that limb afterwards, maybe something akin to it having to be regenerated, or maybe it'd just hurt him to go back because it's quickly regenerating said limb?

Iunno, saw you were talking Ekko earlier today and this thought came to mind.

It probably effects it. But the effects are either too small or too large for people to notice.
