I loved the old one so much..

EDIT: Apparently the signature "nature crunch" sounds are missing but will get added! Meaning most of my complaints are no longer valid.

Just talked with Rioters about this; Maokai HAS the cracking bark effect in his VO, though the way it's implemented you'll only hear it in game.

There's a massive bank of wood cracking sounds that get randomly used with every voice line. Basically, every line he says will sound slightly different.

Those deep laughs are just from his big arm, it's the same as his current laugh.

maybe so , sounds completely different to me. shrugs either way im not a fan of the voice over and im really really fearful of what they are gonna do to him in the update rework. riot has only has been successful on 2 reworks , warwick and poppy... imo and poppy is the best thing they have done and since then i question everything they do ...

well to me it isnt sion any more i loved his old voice over. sion use to be a counter to ap assassins being an ap melee bruiser now he is just a tank with slow clunky aoe knock up/stun a passive that to me is kinda BLAH , his W shield is ok and his E is boring. his ult can be difficult to use.

galio isnt galio any more its a different champ with galios name. the best thing about the new galio is the gatekeeper skin its fukin awesome. galio is now a engage fighter when before he was an anti mage ... i use to play him at support vs heavy ap comps to me the went over board on galio ... i would of been fine with a smaller rework. i loved his ult but the issue was the flash ult was the only way to effectively pull it of. now if they give him his old ult with the aspect of the new ult beign able to dash in at an allies position then channel taunt that would be awesome. i wanted them to make his bulwark (his old E ) classified as a shield so it could be used to heal and shield as a support with the support items and keystone.

taric isnt the same... he use to be an engage single target cc support that provided auras to his team . now he has an odd stun mechanic , a delay invulnerability for an ult he passively no longer gives his adc or allies passive armor only one he has marked with W . his heal is a joke. he has to be passive and be a counter engage reactionary support. taric lost his spot when they released braum why pick taric if braum is a better version?

to me over all they kinda took what those champs use to be and what they use to do and the niche they provided and made them just boring and generic.

and as a maokai main. who loves the champ im fearful for how badly they are gonna fck up his rework in the midseason update.

Morde doesn't talk about smashing.

He talks about enslavement, delightful suffering and shredding. And he's extremely condescending in the delivery of his lines, he does look down on lesser specters anyways.

If anything he sounds like tree Galio.

It feels like a betrayal of his character honestly. He just sounds like a stereotypical tough guy brute now. Now more sadness, no more longing. I don't like it.

Did you watch the whole thing? He still seems to have hope for the isles, and his (new) lore talks about how angry he is.

it's not good enough. In his old VO, the inflection in all of his lines gave a distinctively sad feel to this character. In this one, he mostly just sounds like a big meaty doofus.

It's interesting. And different.

I wonder why they couldn't still use Scott McNeil or the old effects, I mean, he did Sion fairly recently.

One thing I do miss is the creaking and leafy sounds in his voice.

On the bright side, this means that old visual rework he got is basically a full on visual update now. At least they got his old personality still there, even if it sounds completely different.

I'll be honest, as much as I would like to hear him get a new VO, this doesn't feel right to me. Before he had more of a low tone anger and sadness to him, also in a way sounding like Treebeard a bit which I loved since it fit the whole ancient tree guardian thing perfectly ( I know there's Ivern but he's a very different case).

Here he sounds a bit too angry or higher pitched than before and it shatters the theme of his character, making him sound like a young him that's still extremely pissed about what happened over say a week or so than being this old entity that has watched as he lost everything and wandering through time trying to find a way to fix it.

It just feels something similar to how they updated Galio: the voice just throws the character completely off of how they were before. Granted though, Maokai's case isn't as severe since he still has saving dialogue about his originally mission and whatnot.

I'm really not a fan to be honest. Before he had a really bitter personality and was distinctive in hating misuse of magic and hating what he's been turned into. Now his lines are generic Ent lines and forest references. They turned him from an Ent with distinctive character traits that made him unique into a someone only defined by being a tree.

I feel the old Maokai VO had more of an echo. As if it was truly unnatural for him to talk at least imo, I might be remembering it wrong. Here, idk he feels too normal.

Edit: the actual dialogue isn't bad at all imo. The voice feels a bit weird is all.
