Still got the great laugh, which is perhaps the most important aspect.
UPDATE: Maokai does have the cracking bark effect in game.

I'm gonna be honest... Not a fan, not at all...
I loved the old one so much..
EDIT: Apparently the signature "nature crunch" sounds are missing but will get added! Meaning most of my complaints are no longer valid.
they should've kept the sound effect of the creaking wood when he talks

It feels like a betrayal of his character honestly. He just sounds like a stereotypical tough guy brute now. Now more sadness, no more longing. I don't like it.
I'll probably get used to it, but I'm not fully convinced right now.
Maybe that's just me being nostalgic-ish or something.
I'll be honest, as much as I would like to hear him get a new VO, this doesn't feel right to me. Before he had more of a low tone anger and sadness to him, also in a way sounding like Treebeard a bit which I loved since it fit the whole ancient tree guardian thing perfectly ( I know there's 
but he's a very different case).
Here he sounds a bit too angry or higher pitched than before and it shatters the theme of his character, making him sound like a young him that's still extremely pissed about what happened over say a week or so than being this old entity that has watched as he lost everything and wandering through time trying to find a way to fix it.
It just feels something similar to how they updated Galio: the voice just throws the character completely off of how they were before. Granted though, Maokai's case isn't as severe since he still has saving dialogue about his originally mission and whatnot.
It's interesting. And different.
I wonder why they couldn't still use Scott McNeil or the old effects, I mean, he did Sion fairly recently.
One thing I do miss is the creaking and leafy sounds in his voice.
On the bright side, this means that old visual rework he got is basically a full on visual update now. At least they got his old personality still there, even if it sounds completely different.

I'm really not a fan to be honest. Before he had a really bitter personality and was distinctive in hating misuse of magic and hating what he's been turned into. Now his lines are generic Ent lines and forest references. They turned him from an Ent with distinctive character traits that made him unique into a someone only defined by being a tree.
Why does he get a new voiceover? His old voice was one of my favourites
I can't say I like his VO, I like his old voice. This new one makes him sound like an insanely old man.

I feel the old Maokai VO had more of an echo. As if it was truly unnatural for him to talk at least imo, I might be remembering it wrong. Here, idk he feels too normal.
Edit: the actual dialogue isn't bad at all imo. The voice feels a bit weird is all.
