Oh my.. Evelynn

Blood Magicks12/13/2017, 8:26:59 PM34 votes

I would date him.

Even with the two guys(Val and Kai) present at every date.

Neato.

Now he just needs icon updates.

I don't like this new splash. Not because it is bad. But because it doesn't fit Varus. He looks like Ra's al Ghul rising out of a Lazarus Pit. He looks like a big bad ready to conquer the world.

I don't see any of the focus, action, or determination his old splash had. In fact he looks rather laid back and amused.

The abs are nice though.

Looks good but the leg seems a bit off to me... or is it just me?

Fasmodey12/13/2017, 8:52:47 PM8 votes

I don't like it.

He looks giant because of perspective, weird pose, longer face than Varus we know.

I don't know, maybe it is just me.

"Here, let me get that bow out of the way so you can stare at my perfectly toned abs and core" - Varus probably

I think they need to change his face, but he can use his piercing arrow on me anytime otherwise.

I'm gay, but I'm even more gay now, after seeing that handsome Varus [sg-jinx]

I like the new splash. It could do with some touch ups and improvements though. I'd also like to point out that this splash is still raw, and it can be improved upon before it reaches live.

The biggest thing I notice is the general appearance of Varus and the pose he's making. As a Darkin, Varus is extremely arrogant and vain. Some people have pointed out that his bow being in the background is a mistake. I disagree. His form screams "Come and try beat me!" The focus is on his body, not the bow that he was sealed in. This is Varus with his new freedom, and thus it's appropriate that the focus is on his body and not the Darkin bow. The tiara and locket in the new splash, although they held relevance in his old lore, adds a sense of regalia to a character who is extremely cocky in what he does.

I'm going to borrow from MagicaIPotato's quote on his body proportions.

In his face what concerns me is his ears...they seem disproportionately large, also his face is extremely triangular, i see that they tried to make him handsome/beautiful, but the trinagularity of the face seems off. When it come to his body... his hips/legs seem a bit odd, almost as if they glued the torso to the legs.

Well, the bodies of Valmar and Kai were literally torn apart and meshed together to give Varus his new form. He was noted as being succinctly beautiful, even among the Darkin. For the features to be twisted makes sense, since it's the closest thing to his original form thought possible.

I'd also like to show you all this image, lifted from the Artstation of the Rioter who did this, who was also responsible for the Traditional Karma, Zoe, and Evelynn splash arts.

Example A wouldn't make a great splash in my opinion. The focus is too centered and neither hones in on the Bow, or Varus himself.

Example B is actually what the finished product started from. I honestly thought it would be a little cool to see the remnants of Kai / Valmar's corporeal forms being absorbed into Varus' new body.

Example C is lifted straight from the end of As We Fall, where piercing arrow is being charged. I think out of all three examples this would be the worst, as it'd feel cheap to base his new splash art off of a pose from the music video.

I feel like Example B was the right choice to take. It enamours what the new Varus is. Arrogant, prideful, beautiful & powerful.

RIP old Varus. At least the art team does a good job of keeping his corpse pretty.

Wow I'm blown away, it looks ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT! Does his necklace hold any meaning in the new lore? Side note: Does the splash seem off center to anyone else?

Great Splash! An icon update is incoming soon and I'm hoping for a Voiceover Update in the future. Hearing 3 voice actors in one character would be the best thing yet. (Also the scarf looks fabulous on him)

Ok, I have some questions for the Rioters that might be lurking around the boards.

  1. If the splash art represents Varus emerging from the pit, why is he drawn with a scarf, a necklace and a belt around his chest? They were completely absent in his cinematic depiction.

  2. What's the backstory of those items? Did Varus create them (are they actually part of his body?) or pick them up somewhere? Why does he wear them? Is it just a matter of fashion or do they have a particular meaning for him?

  3. What's the deal with his tiara? Old Varus wore it, "As We Fall" Varus emerged from the pit while wearing it and this splash art shows it as well. The fact that the incorporeal darkin still sported the red gem on his forehead leads me to believe that it's something extremely relevant for him, maybe even connected to his powers or his past. Can you reveal its purpose?

his face loos to smooth, the overall concept for the splash art looks cool tho. Overall it definitely an improvement over the previous one
