How Does Archlight Varus Fit Now?

If I remember right Archlight Varus was originally Varus before he was corrupted by vengeance. What I am curious about now is does the skin have any impact on the story? Is Archlight Varus now just a non - cannon skin or is it the mind of Kai and Valmar after they are able to overcome Varus's need for vengeance?

I remember that they said at one point that arclight isn't canon anymore,similar to Pentakill Morde who was once a canon skin.
