A look back at a couple of recent things the Lore team has done..

When I think back over the last few months I can only recall a few things the Lore team has been doing.

  1. The Shurima "event" in which Azir was introduced.

  2. The Sion rework.

  3. Rek'Sai's release.

Starting with the Shurima event. It came and went and with it the stories of Nasus, Renekton, and Xerath have been changed to make them all fit into this nice little cliche Disney movie plot. Azir was introduced as a very naive emperor and let his entire kingdom die out because he screwed up. Also they tied in Rammus, Skarner, Ezreal, and Amumu while not actually furthering the lore. An amazing feat. Oh, also Aatrox was in there somehow.

The Sion rework was amazing. Everything from the Art to the designing of his character was great.

When you think about it though they just redesigned his old story. They turned an undead warrior into and undead warrior. I don't think the lore teams had to work hard on this one at all. He's now an Undead Warrior Zombie. Hungering for the death of his enemy, and his enemy is whoever is in front of him. I saw this EXACT concept on a character in an animation 10 years ago on Newgrounds. Nothing new or exciting for me as a lore fan. Excited for him in game. Not excited about the lore ,although, the animated thing on the website was pretty cool. Good job artists!

Rek'Sai. The Void Burrower. I hate this champ. Not in game. Outside of the game, in the land of Runeterra. Rek'Sai's lore itself annoys me. It's not about Rek'Sai. It's about some guy named Aelon who became a chicken at the sight of Rek'Sai. How did she get out of the void? How is it a she? Don't say "because the lore says so". No. I mean how do WE know it's a she. Do the natives tell tales of Rek'Sai at night to frighten their children around a campfire? If so do they refer to the beast as a "she"? How do they know? Do other Void creatures know of Rek'Sai? If Kha'Zix ran into Rek'Sai would he instinctively know it's a she, and if so why not have that be her lore? I'd rather know something about Rek'Sai that I didn't learn from watching the animation.

Just my opinion on the recent lore that we've gotten. I feel like being a writer for Riot would be the easiest job in the world. I feel as if you're a person who's well versed on the lore and can write a short story about a new person within the confines of that lore then you can be a lore writer. I remember when I first started this game. I sadly was not here for JoJ however I've read them all and I loved them immensely. I'm a huge lore fan and I always get into a games lore. I read the books (if there are any), I read the wiki every chance I get, and I love the characters of the games I play. I feel as though when reading the current lore I've hit a brick wall. As though Runeterra isn't evolving anymore. It's becoming more and more stagnant and honestly, it makes me sad.

TLDR: This is the Story and Art section if you don't want to read gtfo.

I get what you mean but I wouldn't describe it as not evolving. For me, the issue seems that without Summoner's and the Institute of War... and without the League of Legends... a lot of the lore stuff has been done to death before in other franchises that far surpasses the depth, detail, and drama that the narrative team has done thus far. When the narrative, being so young, is competing against not just long-time established fantasy game franchises like Warhammer or WoW but countless other games and their world-building, the LoL is nothing special other than we play X champ a lot.

To me, the question is what makes Valoran different from every other generic fantasy game world that's been done to death before?

I'm...confused? Are you saying you hate the lore, because the examples you show are actually:

  1. Bad
  2. Really Flippin sweat
  3. New perspective

In other words the Shurima event wasn't all that good, it just came and left really.Like a rude sandstorm.... While the Sion event was amazing, not only did you get to see who and what new Sion is, but also got to see other views on some other pretty big figures. e.g. Leblanc Swain Vladimir Now I can see why people are confused about the Rek'Sai thing. Yes much like Gnar it was the perspective of another, but that makes sense. Why? Because Rek'Sai cant talk, neither can Gnar ( rather in a language we understand). Although we didn't learn anything new from Rek'Sai, we learned alot about the culture of Shurima and their struggles. As well a bit about Noxus.

But again this is just my opinion on things so don't go thinking what I say is finally.

THE ORDER HAS BEEN GIVENAzir

seriously you want rek'sais lore to be about how they figured out that she is female? Its not even known if the shurimans know that she is female,it might as well be something that we the players know, but barely anyone else knows.

Also new Sion lore is awesome.
