Can we talk about how boring Jax's lore is? His dozen or so voice quotes convey extreme confidence but no personality. And with the retcon of the Institute of War, his lore literally just consists of the phrase "Before joining the League, Jax was an unremarkable soldier-for-hire." He's not affiliated with any county, species, or group. His only ally is Gragas and his only enemy is Fiora, but none of their lores record them ever meeting. The only references that ANYONE has to him are as follows. Illaoi has a quote for Jax, ("I do not challenge you, I bring you the test!), which is reused from Fiora. Tahm Kench has a quote for Jax, like he does for every champion.

He appears in three Journals of Justice, which are now non-canonical. In Journal of Justice 27, Wukong says that Jax is super OP. In JoJ 1, Gragas and Jax trash a bar and harass some waitresses. In JoJ 18, Jax speaks at Urf's funeral.

aaand that's it. That is all that there is about Jax. THoughts? Did I miss something?

The thing is that Jax used to have some pretty awesome lore supporting his character.

The problem is that Riot decided to retcon it all out of the game's cannon.

Now he's nothing. His in-game lore still doesn't make sense over a year after the retcon. Why is RIot taking so long? I can't think of another company that would take so long to patch their game's pre-meditated lore issues...

Jax's lore is and has always been:

"Is the Champ"

Nothing else is needed.

Jax has always been a mystery wrapped in an enigma. The guy basically just showed up in the League and started pwning people so hard that he was required to not use weapons anymore... and that's it really. There's not much past that. Hell, we don't even know what he actually looks like because EVERY skin has him wearing the six-eye mask thing he has. We also have no idea what species he is, because it's pretty obvious he isn't human.

I understand that being a completely unknown badass can make for a cool character, but so much about Jax is so COMPLETELY unknown that he's left being just some guy who fights.
