I seem to remember you mentioned working on it at an early stage, but haven't heard of it since. Is it postponed indefinitely? Is the texture update going to be a placeholder for a good while longer, other champions taking priority?
Well, all we know is that they wanted to deliver his rework with a VU, but due to issues with his VU's development, it has been delayed and they decided to release the rework without it.
Be glad they leave him alone for now...
I believe it was mentioned that he was only in the concept step (concept art, exploration of ability visuals and so on). The creation of a new model would be far later in the process.
I'm wondering the same as the OP. His new texture genuinely saddens me every time I see it. It's so awful compared to the original.
