A Gangplank Theory

An idea just came to me (while doing dishes - mundane activities are great for getting creative juices flowing) and a thought came to be about Gangplank's death. Roll with me here - there's a little bit of work involved.

Something bothered me about the Act III lore. Gangplank killed Miss Fortune's parents? Since when? I just re-checked her lore, and indeed, it makes no mention of the identity of the attacker, aside from the fact that he had red eyes. Now, the Bilgewater event has changed lore noticeably - particularly in the source of Graves and TF's rivalries - so it wasn't impossible that this was new, but still, it seemed strange - it seemed to come out of left field. In addition, GP's lore makes no mention of him doing so.

Then I began to wonder about the identity of GP himself. Some people have remarked that his remake seems noticeably older than his previous incarnation, much more clearly middle aged. The key point for me came when I was reading some forumer's mixed reaction to the GP rework. He remarked that while GP is now much more fearsome, much of the charm and humor was gone from his new VO. He said that we were playing GP's father, not GP. He was, of course, referring primarily to the feel of the champion, the aesthetic.

My theory interprets that differently - much more literally. We ARE playing GP's father. GP's FATHER is dead.

We know that this GP killed his father for his ship, but for all we know, that could be a regular occurrence in the family. In addition, it accounts for the differences in personality and apparent age.

So my theory is this: GP's father killed MF's parents. MF has now killed him in revenge. Gangplank - the son of the pirate we've been playing with for the last few days - is still out there, and I suspect he may make his appearance in the near future.
