Are we actively deleting lore now?

I really hate to be defeatist or critical. I really, really do. I consider myself a big lore fan, but I've done a lot of fiction writing myself, so I know that it's not easy. So, despite my doubts and not-always-positive opinion of the lore team, I tend to try to give them the benefit of the doubt or at least adopt a "well, I'm still hoping" attitude.

But this... http://www.surrenderat20.net/2015/07/710-pbe-update.html

Gangplank, Graves, and Twisted Fate have all had their bios cut down to almost nothing on the PBE. Graves' now makes no mention of his imprisonment or escape, and TF's now makes no mention of the dangerous procedure used to grant him magic - in other words, two major character-defining events. Did these not happen now? Worst of all - their rivalry? COMPLETELY GONE. Perhaps the single most defining features of these characters now makes no appearance whatsoever in their bio.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this isn't okay.

Riot hears you Riot doesn't care.

The problem isn't erasing lore to replace it with two-three sentence bios. The problem is doing this without delivering anything more on the champions for months after. The narrative team would be much better off releasing nothing at all than making true fans worry about which aspects of their favorite champions lore will be kept or dropped.

Personally still waiting on more for Amumu Rammus Skarner Sivir Cassiopeia Ezreal. These stories were rewritten during the Shurima event when Azir was released and the narrative team has yet to expand on these champions. Sure Amumu got a depressing song and music video and a story told by some scary old grandpa. However we still don't know whether he's a kid or a yordle, which era of Shuriman history he's from, or his relationship to Sivir and Azir.

Who's to say after the Bilgewater event Graves TwistedFate MissFortune Gangplank won't receive the same treatment as the other six. I remember Riot Jaredan writing in a post a while back that we'd see some progress within the month on the lore/narrative front. So I will be faithful until midnight on the 31st and encourage the rest of the lore fans to do the same. Let us trust this team one last time. However if sufficient progress is not made by then feel free to express disappointment in an appropriate manner.

When any basement dweller who knows anything about League can write a better narrative in an hour for the characters than a "professional" working for a year, something is wrong.

Those aren't lore, those are summaries. They been doing this since the Shurima event last year (Azir's release). They were suppose to be released along with longer lore pieces on the website. But tech issues prevented that from happening. We should be getting some actual lore once the tech issues are dealt with. Based on Jaredan recent comments,it sounds like the tech issues have been dealt with & should be seeing the results once the Bilgewater event gets rolling later this month.

To everyone saying that the new bios are only meant to be short summaries: we know. Reread the original post.

Graves' now makes no mention of his imprisonment or escape, and TF's now makes no mention of the dangerous procedure used to grant him magic

Now, you would think that a "short summary" would make mention of these things, or at least mention the fact that Graves and TF used to be running mates, or that Graves is now hunting down TF. Hell, considering the new lore, where there isn't an institution to keep Graves and Twisted Fate from killing each other should they meet up, you'd think the lore team would be all over that. But no, the summaries don't make any mention of this.

If the new in-game bios really are meant to be summaries, then they are incredibly misleading. Character summaries are meant to give readers a clear and concise picture of what said character is. What would someone who has no idea of the old lore take away after reading the new bios? Graves is an outlaw and Twisted Fate is a gambler. Great, they could have gotten the exact same thing if they read the champion's title.

I don't know about you, but for me, one of the coolest things about LoL lore was seeing how each champion connected to one another. These new bios seem to be going out of their way to make no mention of how individual champions relate to one another. Ultimately, I feel this will make people new to the lore miss out on a lot of character depth and give them no reason to check out the "full lore" if and when it ever comes around.

Yea it's pissing me off too. And here I thought that the Bilgewater event would be the first big "new lore" event. Lol no, just keep delaying the new lore and gut the current lores Skarner-style.

Riot's been doing this for quite awhile, a little bit at a time.

They've slowly been re-writing/retconning some of the most beloved champion lore.

It isn't going to stop unless the community overwhelmingly lets Riot know that they're opposed to it.

INB4 Khazix and Rengar rivalry gets written out of the lore.

As much as I agree with the post about lore taking way too fucking long to come back to us, Riot did say they didn't want to cram the long bios in the client anymore, and the full stories would be linked to the game website. Or something like that. I fucking hate it. I used to read the lore and actually behaved in ways I thought the champions themselves would behave. I'd take damage to protect as Leo, be sneaky as fuck with Twitch (also raunchy), and adorable in every way as Teemo. They've completely removed the RPG aspect of the game. It's now cut and paste a MOBA, that's it. Don't try to connect with your champions. Don't try to develop a liking. They aren't real. There is no purpose. They are colorful pieces of data. And will remain so. Because the Lore Team is being paid for three sentences of THIS SHIT. I could do that in 3rd grade. Like, are we being serious? Long words and learned diction don't impress us, Riot. This is bullshit. There is no story to League.

Riot just doesn't care anymore. It's honestly just saddening.

BTW OP tanks for the post... I have indeed noticed this and if they intent to "nuke the lore then already before" the community has by far an overwhelming case to say /ggwp to LoL...

Sukishoo7/11/2015, 12:49:05 PM5 votes

In-game bios are just a brief look at that character. They will have the longer ones on the site (eventually).

Athenes Lulu7/11/2015, 8:10:50 PM5 votes

More like they have been.

Claims to "add more" later, instead we still get unfinished introductions that they just gave up. That's Rito's ragequitting on lore for you.

BlunterMonk7/11/2015, 1:08:24 PM3 votes

Stop complaining about Lore, it's not necessary to play the game.

Squidblimp7/11/2015, 7:40:17 PM2 votes

Riot posted something about lore a few weeks ago. Very soon, within a few weeks, there is a lore update coming out. Also, they have decided to make the bios on the client be more clear and concise, to give an overview of the champion, and then they are going to add a separate page elsewhere that includes the full lore for each champion. So sit tight :)

Oh, no that got "deleted" over what is it now, 10 months ago? It got retconned away back at the end of August I think, and has effectively been "deleted" since that point because it isn't their actual lore, same goes for every other champ who hadn't been re-written since the Freljord event.

They just finally got around to putting in the replacement is all.
