Will Kayle and Morgana be Darkin?

The rival angels are currently in lore limbo. Will they be part of the Darkin family?

Here's some things we know. There are five Darkin left. - We will probably see new Darkin faces at some point.

There are three Darkin known to history through myths and records. - Two others may be familiar already.

Kayle and Morgana are tagged as Demacian and Noxian respectively. - They may be closely affiliated to those factions.

Kayle is tagged as friends with Galio. - Implying she has either been around for a good while or has been in touch with at least one Demacian gargoyle recently.

Aatrox has been in contact with many factions over many centuries. - Including Demacia and Noxus.

He shares with the sisters themes of Abrahamic angels and demons.

Aatrox has connections with non-darkin characters, like Tryndamere and possibly Jax.

Aatrox and Kayle has noticeably similar elements to their abilities.

What's against it. Kayle and Morgana are from another world. This may very well change when they are updated, though.

Now, we don't know the whole idea behind the Darkin five. Things might become clearer when another one is released or the angels are rewritten.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: I forgot that Kayle and Morgana also share similar themes with the Protectorate and Magelords from Aatrox's lore. THAT may be the connection with the greatest potential!

Welp, after reading one person's theory, I am hoping that Darkin are living weapons.

Which explains why Aatrox is called "The Darkin Blade" because the blade is a darkin...whose name is Aatrox.

And if it's so, then Varus is also possessed by a Darkin! His bow which happens to also be a living weapon! :D Please, Rito, make darkin living weapons. Darkin shield should be next. hue hue hue.

i have an incredible hatred for Aatrox, his character, and his lore. i am really attached to kayle an morgana's lore and rewriting it to connect them to aatrox would make me furious.

It was confirmed in one of the most recent lore pieces that the Darkin are living weapons, and I don't see how Kayle and Morgana are weapons at all.

Aatrox is the sword.

Varus' bow and the thing he shares a body with, Pallas, are likely a Darkin as well.

Hate to kill your theory but it seems very unlikely.

Ive thought about this too, as Kayle/Morgana are due for a lore rework (since other worlds dont exists, no religions persist and the notion of demons/angels are being weeded out).

Aatrox is a 'pseudo demon' as in he bears all appearances and properties of demons and devils but with out religious connotations. The exact same reasons why Dungeon and Dragons 2ed had 'Tanar'ri' because there was a backlash from the religious public and I am guessing Riot has taken a preemptive step to mitigate this by naming their new demons/devils 'Darkin'.

Personality wise: What we gleam from Aatrox is that he is a stoic avatar of war, but there is no reason why a darkin can not be lawful (Kayle) or sadistic (Morgana).

Aesthetically Aatrox shares wings with the sisters. Other than that they have little in common, since Morgana/Kayle are very human like.

I personally only see two choices for the remaining two darkin; It can either be the Morgana/Kayle reworked into the darkin race or Evelyn/Jax (which hold their own merits mentioned in a bajillion posts allready).

They will certainly remove the Angelic aspect with some other thing to ground them to Runeterra in their retcon.

Darkin was my suggestion when asked on a similiar thread more than a month ago...

Thinking about their retcons my suggestion is... To move Morgana to Zaun. I know Demacia vs Noxus is the "big" deal, but Zaun appears to be more 'free' in the chaotic sense than Noxus.

To use D&D Alignment as a crutch for my argument - Kayle is Lawful Good, and Morgana being her opposite number should be Chaotic Evil. Noxus is more Lawful since they have tenets of strength etc as their societal pillars and value the command structure of military.

Zaun has more ahem madmen - with Viktor, Mundo etc being home to more 'loose' definations of rules. Morgana has previously been shown to rallying against the oppresion of Kayle's rules as they represent Tyranny - which more or less Noxus is... I think they set Morgana there originally but it just seems like another cliche here.

Give Zaun Morgana!

Overall I doubt that kayle and Morgana will become darkin, looking at aatrox I'd say it is likely that they are simply the demon counterpart of runeterra,so I'd say that the others are probably going to be demonic too.

Another reason against it is that they have already said there are going to be 5 darkin, that sounds like they do have already plans for the other darkin(would be kinda lame if they announce there are only 5 without a plan),retconning old champs into darkin would also sound like a waste of potential, because people now expect that there will be 4 new darkin.

Probably, but I'd take both a step further.

Whereas Aatrox inspires for individual battles and events, Kayle and Morgana could inspire Demacia and Noxus to constantly be in conflict.

Give me an honest reasonable explanation why you think that they would become darkins?

Aatrox and Kayle has noticeably similar elements to their abilities.

The only similarity I can see is the increase of AA range but even there there are more differences than similarities.

In the same Q&A you linked, a Rioter confirmed that Kayle and Morgana's race have nothing to do with the Darkin. I'm still sticking to the theory that the Darkin are living weapons.

Honestly, Morgana and Kayle will probably be outside of the mold of Runeterra and stay that way. The whole point of their lore is that their "evilness" or "goodness" stems from what your beliefs on freedom are. Anyone who has read the lore of those two realizes that the strength of the story is on perspective. It could be argued that Kayle is Lawful Evil, depending on how you view tyranny and the limiting of freedoms.

Riot might be able to somehow manage to retcon their asses into the Darkin, and honestly if they do that they're going to upset a lot of fans of those two. Kayle and Morgana have some of the most unique lore and one of the most interesting dichotomies in the game. Any change to them will automatically upset this dichotomy, which can exist regardless of whether or not the IoW ever existed.

The issue they have now is that the IoW was the only reason for them to be on Runeterra. Morgana wanted power, and Kayle wanted Morgana to be stopped. So the question now becomes what to do with them? What are their reasons for being here? Where do we go from here?

Honestly I have no faith in the narrative department for doing this story justice. The BEST we can hope for is that they retcon Kayle and Morgana in a way that has them seeking one person who is incredibly powerful, and that person shackles them to fight eachother for eternity. If Riot takes away the sisterly differences of politics, they have literally killed the unique lore that existed by itself, apart from Runeterra.

/end rant

Please don't give them ideas of making Kayle and Morgana into Darkin. I would rather them just not touch the lore of those two altogether because they've done a shit-tastic job.

They can remain heavenly beings, who descended to Runeterra and took up residence in Noxus and Demacia and used them as pawns in their power struggles.

Darkin are living weapons (swords, bows, etc...)

Kayle has a sword but it's not alive like Aatrox's sword Morgana has no weapons aside from using dark magic
