A "One Liner"

[ Why no more League Judgements ]: "Kitae has spoken about this in the past, but essentially, explaining why a champion joined the League in previous bios usually felt like a one-liner without much depth and drew focus away from the character's story"

And how would you characterize lore today?

Can Riot open a to a future brighter than anything we can imagine, or will they slide back into their old ways?

I can see their intents but...... D: it's slow going

I would characterize Lore today as... not Lore.

It's not part of the game it's telling a story for anymore, it's not trying to be a story for a game, it's not detail about the story told in the game which the game doesn't tell itself...

It's not connected to the work it's being "Lore" for at all, hence it's not lore.

It's just a random seperate thing with some of the same or similar characters in it.

Plus the setting isn't even defined as anything more than "As the old one but without all the things preventing it from being blown up." so there's not even a coherent side-story.

Much less something which could qualify as lore.

I wish they'd still have lore.

The Lore they had was really interesting, with some kinda unique core setting elements and the best gameplay/story integration i've ever encountered.

But I guess they didn't wanna have Lore. Hence the retconning away the League of Legends from the lore of League of Legends.

You don't necessarily need to include a ton of depth in the reason why a character joined the league. That isn't why the IoW was awesome. It was fantastic because it provided a means to get all the champions together, and it explained the video game mechanics such that I could suspend my disbelief. And thats not even getting into what it did for the setting, which others have covered.

Without the league, your individual character stories have very little cohesion. Unless their lores are directly connected, they have nothing to do with each other. Without the judgements, we're left to guess what a character's motives and feelings are, especially with all the third person storytelling we're seeing recently.

Ya, Riot pretty much criticized their old lore model and replaced it with something worse (in my opinion).

Although lore seem just as, if not more one dimensional as it was before.

I would characterise lore today as unfinished.

When it comes out I believe we will get more stories like the Xerath/Azir or Amumu lores.

I wouldn't object to lore told in video, music, and picture (I really liked those, actually) so long as we get more stories.

Work in progress. Irrelevant (it's unrelated to the game). Story focused rather than character focused (Characters will happily be changed to fit stories better, see Trundle/Xerath).

It seems like they won't release anything until they do something big, like releasing a new game client. It will probably be a year and a half before we get anything substantial from them.
