It's not outright stated, but is it safe to say that Aatrox, Rhaast and Varus were ascended who eventually became corrupted from fighting off the void?

If so, and adding his new quotes toward targon champions, alluding to their role in the imprisonment of the darkin, adds quite a lot of lore.
