New Project Skins don't feel normal and I have mixed emotions
Akali, Irelia, Pyke, and Jinx feel like the most departure from past Project skins. One side of me congratulates this because they aren't just another addition to the "edgy skin line of league," and incorporate more diverse personalities to the skins. By the looks of them it makes me feel like these skins are going towards more human look and Pyke is the hardened veteran of the group? I welcome more of the Tron style (cmon they live in Neon city?) aspect of the Project skins and they contribute towards this.
The downside of this is that I don't think Riot's skin team committed enough to that idea. Pyke is the most unique out of all of the skins and he makes it look like he drained the creativity out of the other three. If they wanted to lean away from the classic Project then DO IT instead of, what to me looks like, taking some champions and slapping on "what makes something look like a Project skin" like grey armor with neon edges and highlights and putting a visor on them. Boom done.
Jinx is definitely the worse offender of this. The skin totally strips her of her personality in my opinion by not leaning heavily into more human than augmented. Somehow a ton of her body isn't full armor and instead a mechanically laced skin or metal that looks like skin that others have reserved just for their faces (if they have any). I'm sure that Jinx's midriff isn't a special exception like Lucian's arm which has meaningful symbolism. Don't get me wrong, I don't want another Odyssey Jinx with just a mechanical arm, but you'd think the rebellious Jinx would have figured out of a way to incorporate her signature spray-paint-punk art style to express herself more? My idea would be to have had her in the full body covering armor like most wear and have the bulky parts look forcibly removed or modified to shape her tattoos...or just completely damaged holes in her body after realizing her skin is gone or to make her look more reckless. In summary, Project Jinx has weird elements of past skins that don't mesh well with what I think they were going for. This skin feels like another Battle Boss Yasuo to me, where if they were given more interesting changes it wouldn't be looked at as forced and bland. I've seem great Project Jinx fan art I prefer.
I would like to say that I like Prestige Edition Project Irelia a lot more than I thought I would when I read she was getting one. Even if you can argue her brighter grays, whites, and golds have been done before, at least just in her splash it really is set apart from the other skins. It is funny how Prestige is argued to be just a gold recolor, but if that is taken into consideration to fit alongside which skin is chosen to get a Prestige version it can enhance the thematic of the skin a lot more. She shines bright against the ironically drab city that is filled with Neon (This is mirroring Tron I SWEAR) and I love it. White hair is cool but kinda just looks like riven.
All I have to say about Warwick is that if you replaced the background It would fit right in as a Pulsefire skin because of the color palette but whatever
