Valoran's geography; Recent Canonical Info Suggests:

  • Shadow Isles has probably moved from a distant North-west of Valoran to East of Valoran, as shown on the A History of the Harrowing - map. (Alternatively, Runeterra is a Pluto-sized "planet".)
  • Ionia is probably further east than before, as shown on the A History of the Harrowing - map (Upper-right arrow with symbol is likely Ionia).
  • Piltover and Zaun are probably a bit further south than before, as seen on the A History of the Harrowing - map (The arrow with a cogwheely symbol is likely Piltover) and *Freljord *- map (They used to be almost on the same latitude, now Freljord is unflanked.)

I haven't given it much thought yet, but the various climates may suggest the position of various areas and size of the continent. Given an earth-sized planet, I'd make a guess that Valoran is a roughly North America-sized continent. Freljord mirroring Canada, and warmer latitudes around Mexico (North African latitudes) mirroring Shurima and Kumungu.

It would make sense if areas likely to be temperate like Piltover, Zaun and Bandle City moved to a latitude closer to the middle of the continent. Also given this Ionia, Bilgewater and Shadow Isles might be on more southern latitudes. Otherwise Ionia might be quite cold in the northernmost parts. This is all debatable though, as latitude isn't the only thing deciding local climate.

Also Vel'Koz's teasers may suggest Urtristan has been moved closer to Icathia.

Has anyone else made other observations?

You know, we hear a lot about Southern Ionia, because that's where the Noxian invasion really took hold, but not much about Northern. I suppose it could be a colder climate. We see some Ionians wearing furs, like Udyr, so maybe it's a chilly environment up there. It also helps make his controversial move to Freljord later in his lore make a little more sense, he's already used to a frigid climate, and he's dressed for it with all his pelts.

Then again he is wearing sandals. Guy has to have some serious foot frostbite by now.

Looking at Freljord and how there's a massive expanse of ice just trailing up to the north, I agree with your observations. It kinda makes me wonder about where the Great Barrier falls in to it, potentially at a similar latitude to the Mediterranean. Kinda wondering if Noxus and Demacia are closer to Freljord now, sort of central europe/central aisa kind of location geographical speaking.

Also with this in mind, this may mean that Valoran's southern tip ends on the equator of Runeterra, roughly speaking, so it stands to reason there's land even further south than that.

"Lets Expand RuneTerra, By making it a Pluto Size Planet:D" ......Not sure I can deduce the thoughts of the ones who thought this up...
