Valoran Map Update

I though that Valoran's map was a bit odd. The Freljord and Piltover were at rougly the same latitude, Bandle City should've been a desert, and the cities were placed a bit oddly, at no natural intersection.

Here's the Imgur album! End result.

What I did:

  1. I made an outline for Valoran and for its states and regions.
  2. I flipped the thing so that Bandle City wouldn't be in a rain shadow. Also, this way the Demacia-Noxus orientation fits my headcanon.
  3. I used GIMP's Cage Transform tool to bring the Freljord to the North and the Jungles to the South. https://i.imgur.com/mqKGMm2.png
  4. I repositioned the islands. Ionia's a bit too lush to be so far North, so I swapped it and Bilgewater around. I dropped the Shadow Isles a bit to the South for similar reasons. https://i.imgur.com/76UpHcA.png
  5. I fixed the shoreline to be a single unified line. https://i.imgur.com/hGDbsqD.png
  6. I drew in the boundaries between regions. https://i.imgur.com/HAyO9zn.png
  7. Color! (All colors from Riot's official map, chosen with the eyedropper tool.) https://i.imgur.com/0EH7T4a.png
  8. I filled in the region colors from the official map and Gaussian Blurred the shit out of it. https://i.imgur.com/H0Gdugw.png
  9. I made a Sea layer, and added some gradients to it. https://i.imgur.com/UZGI9H4.jpg
  10. I drew dots for all the cities, moving Demacia towards the Serpentine River and Noxus towards a pass in the Ironspike Mountans, since those places are the ones where cities typically form (at trade intersections).
  11. I named all the cities, regions and seas (and typo'd the Serpentine River...)
  12. I merged all the text layers into one layer, then gave it a black shadow.
  13. I drew Mount Targon into its own layer.

I might go over it some other day and make all mountain ranges consist of scaled clones of Targon. I have the .xcf if anyone's interested in looking at it. I'd have to figure out where to host it, though.

  1. There is no Institute of War anymore.
  2. We have only a vague idea of how many of those regions still exist.

That being said, putting thought into the geography of things(and properly labeling it Mount Targon) is a solid improvement on what we have.

Why did you mirror it?

I also made a hand drawn map of the same map that riot gave out, i regret that i forgot to rename the mountain though, but gonna have to redraw the map once riot releases an up to date, mine also has the IoW. though sad to say its just a dot , as are most city states, drawing a view of what i think bilge water should look like atm, Great work keep it up
