Neeko's Sexual Preference is Irrelevant.

This bugs me.

There are many champions we shouldnt know the sexual preference as because its not relevant to the game. but "Neeko is the first lgbtq champion!" assumes that we know the sexual preference for EVERY other champion. This is a fighting game, a war to destroy the enemies base... I think who you want to sleep with is irrelevant.

Do you know why basically every character creation that exists does not have an option to choose who you want to have sex with? ITS IRRELEVANT.

Why do people somehow always forget that lore and stories are like 1/3 of what makes video games appealing, after the gameplay and the visuals? If you don't have developed stories and rich and interesting characters, you have a flat, boring video game that won't thrive. So making this bullshit argument that characterization shouldn't be relevant in a game is stupid because you're basically advocating that games should be nothing more than gameplay and graphics. If you want that shit, go play Bejeweled, Candy Crush, or some other mindless phone game. But don't sit here playing a game who's core principle is it's diverse and gigantic roster of characters and spout this shit that their characterization in unimportant. The nature of this game DEMANDS good characterization, or else it's no better than one of those horrible Asian phone games about mindless battle with nameless deities.

I agree, her sexual preference is indeed irrelevant. What's not irrelevant is how often she shoves her sexual preference in your face through her dialogue. From a design perspective, this was poorly executed.

The only problem I can see anyone having with Neeko's sexuality is that it isn't just irrelevant to her lore, it straight up contradicts it. Why on earth would the tribe elders choose Neeko, someone that wouldn't reproduce to ensure the survival of their tribe, as the single individual they save? Literally almost anyone else would've been better to save.

Calling Neeko the first dismisses the chance that Miss Fortune, Evelyn, or even Zyra wouldn't swing toward the bi when the mood suited them. How narrow minded of riot.

some champs have stories, lore, voice lines, that hint at sexuality. the obvious xayah rakan with lovey voice lines. it just adds depth to character. its not that deep. and in some ways, it lets me relate to the character. i know for straight people, it might not seem important. most characters are straight because straight is the default in life. but knowing, having confirmation from the company, that they made a character LGBT. it feels...oddly and cliche as it is... nice. it makes me relate to her more. i feel similar to her. more than other champs. you really dont see it unless you change your perspective. anyways, have a good day.

If it's so irrelevant then why does it bother you that it's brought up?

Because in a significant amount of those games you make the choice yourself in-game, such as in every Bioware game ever, Persona, the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, Bethesda games, etc.

But this is beside the point. Champion quotes and interactions are meant to give us some idea of what the character is like in general, not just on the field of battle. Hence why Yasuo has quotes alluding to him possibly being an alcoholic, though IIRC Riot cowered away from that portrayal later on.

mfw like, every female champ in this game is like, slutty to the MAX and it's only towards men and y'all say nothing. evelynn's (and ahri's, to an extent) entire design is like, based on sexuality, you've got the whole ezreal/lux thing with zoe in a triangle, you've got two champs who are literally, canonically dating and make sexual comments to each other in game, and then when ONE (1) champion mentions that she wants __ y'all go berserk like wth!!! __ talking about "sexuality doesn't matter"

Where was this thread when Ekko was confirmed to have a crush on Janna or had a crush on Jinx? When it was revealed that Zeo had crush on Ez or that Ez crushes on Lux? When Akali called Kayn hot? Why is it that only when we get an LGBT+ character their sexuality becomes ˝unnecessary˝?

As to reply to your last paragraph , you know from 120+ champions we have, if 30 of them have a confirmed sexual preference, the rest have none or don't have it confirmed. Let's all wait for her story and see if it fits or not. Everyone keeps yelling it doesn't make sense from a short bio, which is only meant as a short introduction to the champion, rather than a detailed background.
