Riot, Is There Any Word On One of League's BIGGEST ODDBALLS IN THE LORE

Annie. Annie is one of the most outdated Champions in both lore and gameplay aspects (at least character like Tryndamere and Jax have gotten some progress lore-wise). Her story is so outdated it's ridiculous, and her visuals are so bizzare and out of place that nobody even recognizes her story. Her lore states that her parents are powerful mages that fleed from Noxus when the Grand General took control, which I'm not sure is still the case but we'll have to wait for a potential Noxian update. Along with that however, it's stated that she was raised in the Voodoo Lands, and is the only Champion to ever reference this place. Along with that, it's been confirmed that the Voodoo Lands are probably not even a thing anymore. So is Annie anywhere on the VGU list? I feel like she can have a lot of potential to be an interesting character and strange side of Noxus that only her story shows, along with being one of the only young children in the Champion roster.

She's far too silly, even among silly champions. Ivern's got the walk and kooky dialogue, but he's not like 6.

Wont down vote, but I do disagree. Annie would just be fire Syndra if she grew up. Her being so young is staple to her character.

I agree. Her being young is a staple of Annie. But it's a bad staple.

I don't agree that she'd just be fire Syndra. I think we could still make her young (13 or 14), and we can, in aging her, evolve her spells in logical ways.

Personally I think it's good in that we don't have another child in the league roster. It also allows her to have Tibbers which is also a staple to her character. A teenager wouldn't be carrying around a stuffed animal, but a 6 year old child would.

Like a magical teenager is scary, but a cute little kid who can incinerate you and maul you with a magical fire bear, that's a lot more scary to me lol.

I would like to see her get a VGU. Her spells are pretty stale, not horrendous but I personally have no desire to play her often unless it's aram.

Another thread was made awhile ago about her aesthetic also doesn't match the current world. I agree on this as well; she looks like she could be a little girl from the modern day. We don't really see anyone else dressed like this. Her backpack is so modern compared to a lot of other images in the game and lore.

I don't think he can get away with no gameplay update, but I honestly think that with all the small updates they've done to his abilities he could get away with a pretty light one.

I mean for as positively ancient as his kit is, it's still got one of the strongest niches in the game.

Nunu Anyway, Annie is just too far out there for me. I understand that people like that about her, but it's just not something I can appreciate. Ivern can be silly. Taric can be silly. I'm sure there's a third example. It's like, you have a little girl character, but she's going out and straight up murdering people. Which is fine. Fun, even. But then she still says stuff like "I'm rubber and you're...on fire!" Like Annie, at this point your body count is approaching that of real life serial killers, maybe be a psychopath in a more..."mature" isn't the right word here, but in a different way.

But anyway, that's why I don't design the champions. But if they did age Annie, I would appreciate it FOR ME

At this point she is a really underdeveloped character. She needs more lore, stories and especially voice lines. She's a little girl, I think she should be silly, but some more serious lines would be appreciated. Maybe her questioning using her magic on people, or being remorseful. Something that adds depth.

Thing is that League's universe has stuff like demacia/noxus/ionia but also has Zaun/piltover. When you look at ezreal, Jinx, Jayce, etc their clothes look modern too. they just don't look like something most people would casually wear.

Ezreal wears explorer clothes that look as modern as the other steam punk attire. I wouldn't say they're 2017 modern, where as a zippered pink backback is.

Jinx is really the exception, and even then her style is so punk rebel it boarder-line doesn't count because it is outside of the norm. We really haven't even seen many other Zaunites dressed like her and she's supposed to be dressed in a more Zaunite way.

Modern would be sneakers and a hoodie.

Sorry if i wasn't clear.

I mean that league honestly has ALOT of freedom ,in clothing because different areas take the style from different Fantasy genre's. Even talon isn't his renegade skin supposed to be him before kata's dad took him in? he's just wearing jeans there. Annie having a more modern real world skin gives her a bit more uniqueness from the others. And I think as long as it isn't like pulsefire futuristic it's not going to far compared to the others. I mean corki pretty much wears modern clothing too.

Skins are not canon.

Honestly I'm not opposed to her modern look as long as it's a bit more explained. Piltover & Zaun are the pinnacles of Runeterras progress, so no doubt some of them would be wearing more modern clothes.

But Annie isn't from either of those places. We don't have much context on her background to make accurate assumptions.

Like put Annie next to Dunk Master Darius and it wouldn't look that off. Put Jayce next to Dunk Master Darius and it looks very off. Jayce's clothes might be more modern than a Frejlordians but it still isn't the same type of modern as Annie or Dunk Master D who I would say are on the same level of modern.

All in all, I just want more Annie lore lol

Annie is supposed to be this stupidly powerfull and gifted mage, that's why we get kid annie. To show how strong she already is as an 8 year old child and how terrifieing she'd be at like 25 - 30 +

Also what's even the point of aging her up then? the we have another kid that's like 2 or 3 years or something younger than ekko.

I don't think Annie is a young fire Syndra. Nothing in her really screams "I will become the strongest Hokage", she's just 'playful' and like a 'devil' child.

I didn't say she is; I was saying that if what OP wanted, she would end up being fire syndra.

Annie is strong enough to contend with other powerful mages and she is only 6. Her power will most likely only increase, so as far as we know she may become the 'strongest hokage' (idk that reference tbh).

Her kit definitely doesn't scream it though, which is absolutely fine. She wouldn't be unique as young fire syndra. But as Annie, that includes Tibbers.

Annie got a VGU in I think 2012, she was one of the first to get a fully realized VGU that included new animations (recalls). She is in a pretty great spot visually, and I don't think they need to do a VGU on her at all, especially after the great changes she got in the mage update and thereafter.

What she needs is a lore overhaul and updated splashes. She needs to be placed somewhere in Runeterra that makes sense now, and I don't see that being Noxus, Ionia, or Demacia.

Piltover or a Piltover outpost/consul somewhere is the only place to put Annie (or at least start out). Putting her in Demacia or Shurima or Ionia would force a new layer of "local culture" onto Annie that would change who she is a person too much. Piltover is the closest thing we have to a generic place where a "normal" little girl could be found where her magical abilities and childishness are her defining characteristics.

Annie's outdated lore is a hard example of just how flat old lore really was. I mean when her lore was new it should have been a let down, seriously three paragraphs? That's not an entire biography of lore, that should just be the opening scene!

Makes me question how the hell did the lore for champs like.. Viktor Warwick Swain Darius Soraka Leona Nidalee Veigar Zyra generate fan followings back then?

Anyway getting back to Annie, it's unfortunate that she in particular has no association to any other champ/s or region which pretty much means no foreseeable lore update in the near future. Since we've all come to know that LUs come packaged with a new champ or rework. Now Im not saying Annie has been or will be ignored by Narrative since I don't argue that they've attempted to explore their options with her. I'm more curious just how Annie's LU will be released; would it be bundled with other champs like how most are or will it be a spontaneous and independent update?

I imagine she'll get bundled in with a region when they update that regions lore.

im not sure if all the lore was like this but they did shorten some of the lores after awhile. For example kats lore used to be way longer but when I looked at it (not recently at least a year ago) I saw that it was shortened into like 2-3 paragraphs or something like that. So not sure if others used to have longer stories.

Well I have no knowledge about Kat having "way longer lore" but I do know kat's story had been through 2 biography changes prior to the retcon of 2014. Both of her removed Bio's were as long as current Annie's is today, all equally lacklustre and underdeveloped. In fact the only thing I think Kat had going for her was the taboo of her personal feelings for Garen. I believe that the fan base she picked up all those years ago comes from relationship enthusiasts and players who like femme fatales, other than those appeals she really was another flat character.

Biggest oddballs in League's lore.... Hmm... Fiddlesticks Nocturne Evelynn Annie Alistar Nunu Rammus Sivir Skarner Swain Urgot the majority of these champs either don't fit in to current lore or their old lore is three sentences long.

Sivir, Nocturne, Swain and Skarner are actually important parts of the current lore.

Rammus Skarner and Sivir have already had their lore updated in the Shuriman update. Evelynn Swain Nunu and Urgot are slated for a VGU soon. Alistar's species of Minotaur are mentioned in a Piltovian map, and he at least has some relationships to Xin Zhao and Noxus Nocturne actually has a HUGE part in the latest Demacian story "For Demacia," and it looks like he might be associated with the mentioned race of Spirits and Demons, so I predict a future Spirit & Demon lore update to fully describe them? (Shaco Fiddlesticks TahmKench Kindred Bard Brand)

Yes, an Island that's actually been described, has various important connections to Bilgewater culture and we've actually seen it. We know jack about the Voodoo Lands other than that

  1. its called the Voodoo Lands
  2. It's non-canon now
