Jax's bio -- PERFECTION

It addresses big questions without giving too much away.

The fire in his lamppost gives him unknown extended life, but his natural lifespan is also still very, very long.

"As he bore the elemental fire, Jax’s life extended beyond even the expectations of his long-lived people."

Jax's father was alive during the fall of Icathia which means Jax was born after, but considering the long lifespans there's not much room to speculate on the exact time of birth before Icathia's fall save the time he spent becoming a weapons master and gaining the experience he has.

They triumphed in early engagements, and Saijax even killed one of the vaunted Ascended in battle, watching with pride as its corpse was paraded around the liberated city of Bai-Zhek.

This quote seems to suggest that he indeed did beat an ascended in one-on-one combat, and a very strong one at that.

He became a wanderer, traveling across the known world and to places beyond any map.

Jax is one of if not the only canon champion to have explored the world.

My feelings on it are... mixed.

Something about Jax that has stayed pretty consistent since his very first lore state was that he was such a colossal badass that he used a lamppost as a weapon solely to give his enemies a sporting chance. It wasn't a real weapon, it was just something he could beat you over the head with. Because he was just THAT good.

The whole point of the lamppost was that it was a random piece of junk he happened to pick up; the lamp itself didn't matter. Making the lamppost important for fighting the Void is a subtle change, but not as small as it initially seems. Yeah, it's still not a "real" weapon, technically, but it's absolutely a weapon now; one to be used against the Void. He feels like a different (albeit very similar) character now.

This isn't as egregious as deleting Shyvana's father or Varus' family from existence, but it does rub me the wrong way, ya know?

So is Jax a human?

Does this mean Jax has a real weapon now?

Jax did NOT kill an Ascended in one on one combat. he and a regiment of fellow soldiers basically toppled a mountain on one, and then cut its head off

Just to clarify, jax still uses a lamppost, its just the fire that's magical?

It is just lazy lore design. I always wanted my main champion to have a shroud of mystery and something that is not as simple as "did/has X = immortal" and instead of making something innovative, something unique that fits the origins of the champion, they straight up made him immortal for no reason.
