One thing I'd love to see from League that was great in another game is the idea of picking a side and playing in a game mode where you represent that side. Now I'm pulling this from a very different game, Neopets (haha [not a joke {its fair to laugh though}]). In Neopets, you could select one of two sides and be queued to battle against people on the other side. For example, in league if there was a war between Demacia and Noxus, then you would battle alongside Demacians vs. Noxus enemies.
It would be relatively simple for Riot to do this. First they should have players select between Demacia and Noxus. Lets say Summoner 1 selects Demacia. Next Riot should set up a special queue/game mode that matches Demacians together on Team 1 and Noxians on Team 2; if you selected Demacia then all your teammates also selected Demacia and vice versa for Noxus. Finally, they should restrict the champions for the Demacians to Demacian champions and their allies, ie
(Note: this is a sample team, not a conclusive list). Likewise, Noxus champ pool should be limited to their champions and allies such as
.
Notably, this could present meta issues (or force meta innovation!) due to the limited champ selection for either side. One way to remedy this is to add lore explaining recruiting of champs from other regions for Noxus (ie
being recruited to Noxus as a mercenary,
being recruited to Noxus on promise of help gaining back something in Freljord, etc).
Lastly, the wins and losses should be shown statically and people should be able to see their team's progress.
This would be an excellent way to combine competition with the lore and advance Riot's product. Further, they could release skin lines in tandem with the event that promotes the war that is perhaps automatically present on the champs during the war but purchasable at the end. The side that wins the war could be granted special chromas to those skins so long as they purchase those skins during the war.
Also: Riot I'm in law school, feel free to hire me.
