Tahm Kench -A Time Traveling Spirit?
He has a large number of taunts, smart mouth like Ekko. Both for enemies AND allies.
Ally
"Your strength is waning, General. 'course, I can help you slow time's regress."
Ally
"**Time is but another river **- and I care **not **what water I swim in."
Ally
"Time is just a river, boy, let me take you **back **where you belong."
Ally
"Why not travel to **when **you were free from these doubts?"
And he says
"Boy, the world's one river, and I'm its king. **Ain't **no place I ain't been. **Ain't **no place I can't go again."
The only thing that would solidify it more would be an interaction with Zilean. I think his Abyssal voyage actually has more powers than traveling through space but also time. Now, I'm not decided whether he exists at a single point in time, or has in fact existed since time began and even on multiple worlds and universes (like wherever Kayle and Morgana came from).
At the moment I would classify him as an anomaly in the same category as
. It is important to note that various other cosmic beings DO exist, including celestial beings
as well as elemental spirits of renewal like
and
. Some like Soraka may sacrifice their immortality to enter the world of mortals, while others like Tahm Kench can find... other ways in. It's uncertain if something like
and
among them.
Tahm Kench has some features of a catfish, some of a salamander, and some of a frog -as reds said in his Q&A they combined many features rather than simply anthropomorphisizing one animal. It makes me think of another entity.
It's from N'kai that frightful Tsathoggua came -you know, the amorphous, toad-like god-creature mentioned in the Pnakotic Manuscripts and the Necronomicon and the Commoriom myth-cycle preserved by the Atlantean high-priest Klarkash-Ton"
-Whisperer in The Darkness, by H.P. Lovecraft
And if Tahm Kench really IS everywhere...even in peoples hearts, and minds, is that not truly a sort of cosmic horror? But...perhaps not, because Tahm Kench seems rather bound up in mortal desires, understandable rather than alien things -albeit just how he feeds on these things and why he exists at all may be beyond mortal understanding.
The cosmology, and innate magic of runeterra is fascinating. I hope we learn more of runeterran "demons" and how they fit into things. Red's noted they straying away from a strictly Judeo-christian sense (albeit it's not like those religions have a monopoly on monsters and evil spirits), so while he is a "demon" I dont think he came straight out of the bowels of El Diablo.
