Daily reminder that lore like this is still a thing

You know Riot, if you want to retcon lore, you should check the definition of the world "replace". Removing stuff is only half of the process. So you propably shouldn't have destroyed all the lore before having even written anything new to put in it's place. Just saying.

Also it's taking you forever to write, but I'm sure we all know that...

Evelynn : "You think that guy has it bad?"

That's not lore, that's an epitaph.

I think daily reminders are really unnecessary. Riot said that they'll fix up the lore someday, and eventually they will. But, it's not a priority. The gameplay is not affected by the lore, so it should not be a priority and it is just a nice bonus for the game to have. I'd rather Riot focus on visual updates and champion reworks first, then tackle the lore.

that Skarner story makes me cringe hard

I really hope we will get a REAL reply this time. We STILL don't know what's so hard and what the "tech issues" are supposed to be. We just want text. Some written lore. Some goddamn basics. Everything else that comes, fine, we can wait for your awesome animations, comics or whatever, but first of all, we need to get the basics out.

The only thing I can think of is that they are working on an actual client (where they will show the lore in and stuff...). I really hope so, because that would be worth the wait. The current system still uses this adobe air abonimation after all... Apart from that I can't really think of ANYTHING that would cause tech issues delaying lore...

What I'm getting from this lore about Skarner is: "Big spooky scorpion underground that kills people. Oh, and it's made of crystal too."

So either riot gives us the best Rammus lore there could ever be, or they change it to just. "Ok."

I really hate how the lore for new champions isn't nearly as long as lore for the older ones. I love reading the lore so much and it's just so disappointing to be excited for this new champion then learn basically nothing about him/her

I would not be upset about the slow addition of lore if they didn't just delete lore at random.

The lore is what really attracted me to this game in the first place. Knowing each character in depth is one of my favorite aspects of this game. Every character has a background. A personality. A reason for fighting on the Field of Justice. That's all kind of gone now.

Also, the friends/rivals section of each champion page was my favorite. They didn't do that with Kalista/Rek'Sai/Bard though. :(

I still think that Riot is handling the lore rework very sloppily. Like, in my opinion, there were several other much better ways of doing a rework than deleting everything and starting over from scratch (that's like J. K. Rowling writing the first four Harry Potter books and then saying "Wait, I change my mind, I'm going to start over again!" after those first four books are already published and everyone is waiting for the fifth. The world would have exploded and she would have been the #1 most hated human being on the planet. It's BS, is what I'm getting at.).

What bothers me most is that they announced that they were removing the old lore, but then didn't have anything new to present to us for a while afterwards. That was poorly executed. I think the transition wouldn't be as negatively received if they had at least the new foundations of the new lore ready at the time they announced that they were pulling a Disney on the Star Wars canon.

On a side rant, I still think it's kind of stupid that they felt the only way out of the Institute of War and Summoners concept was by erasing everything and starting over again. I was rereading the Journals of Justice, and in the last edition it seemed to be heading towards Katarina, Jarvan, and Garen uncovering some sort of conspiracy within the Institute (or some other negative connotations aimed towards it). Also, considering Vayne is said to have wanted to destroy the League of Legends, would it have been so hard for the lore writers to simply have the champions overthrow the whole institution and then rework it into whatever it is they want it to be now?

Rito please. Real writers don't abandon their stories after they're already published.

I first heard of Riot removing the lore like a month before I started playing and thought, "How the hell are they going to do that? Where's the team?" And now I know.

I mean if it was me and a team, we rework what's existing, even build a campaign that plays on the changes, like a webcomic or stories or another Rune War or something, not just start from scratch. That's just wasted energy.

To be honest I feel that a game's universe has to be involved because there are people that care about game lore than gameplay itself (i.e. Halo). I would love to sit in the Lore Team's office, if there still is one, and see where the new lore is going.

Don't remind us.... The fans int lore and creative writing weep at this stuff. Honestly I wish I could be part of the lore team, I'd have all the lore fixed up in like 6 months.

Tesla Effect4/8/2015, 5:34:32 PM3 votes

Have you seen the lore for Shurima before its event? You cant tell me that the old lore was better than the new one, the lore who didnt expand upon one of the most important locations for several champions.
