Ryze in-lore list of abilities and spells
A few days ago I did a Xerath one and it was quite succesfull, and since the Ryze one I did a few months ago was poorly done, I figured I could make another one for him. So without further introduction, here we go.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Peak-human/Above peak-human reflexes Ryze was able to block several spells when he fought with Brand and Yago.
Nothing else special enough to be worth mentioning in this category.
MAGICAL ABILITIES AND SPELLS
Arcane manipulation Ryze is able to shape arcane energy into different forms and attacks to use it in battle. The ones used by him so far are:
Arcane Blasts Ryze's regular arcane attacks, the ones he used against the Navori bandits and the pirates in Bilgewater. They travel quite far and are capable of one-shotting peak-humans without much power put into them.
Arcane Bursts Bursts are basically blasts, but have a wider area and a shorter range, thus having an AoE effect, with more power put into them and with an explosion much bigger at the end of the distance travelled than the blasts (ex: a blast stops at 1 person and does only a small explosion that only kills 1 person. A burst continues until the max distance then explodes, killing even more with the ending effect). Ryze used these against Yago:
Yago seared Ryze’s flesh with what felt like the power of twenty suns. Ryze countered with a potent series of arcane bursts.
Arcane beams Seen in his comic, the Burning Lands, Ryze uses those to attack Brand and one-shot several humanoid creatures in a straight line.
Arcane Grab/Telekinessis Ryze used this when fighting the creatures in his comic, picking up 2 of them with an arcane grabbing-beam (think of it like a Star Trek tractor beam on a smaller scale) and smashing them against one-another (either knocking them out or breaking their bones, I think its the latter thi because of the sound effect being written as something cracking), as well as when he tried to pick up the World Rune so Brand doesn't get to it first.
Arcane Shockwave Ryze uses it to get out of the Voidborn's tentacle hold in his cinematic, disintegrating some of his tentacles.
Fire spells Ryze has also knowledge of fire-magic. In the story "From the Ashes", he lights up a big campfire with just a gesture of his fingers. He can most probably do much more with his fire spells since he did that just with a small gesture.
The older man clicked his fingers. With a purple flash, the bundle of deadwood flared to life; a campfire born in a single moment of willpower.
Magic shields Ryze's only source of defense, his magic shields, are actually quite powerfull when he actually uses them. In his fight against Brand, he blocked a continuous concentrated attack from him. Keep in mind that Brand has a World Rune inside his head that is giving him all his power, and while he doesn't use it efficiently, it has great destructive powers nontheless.
Spellflux A combination of arcane and runic magic, spell flux is one of Ryze's most iconic spells. Its a seeking projectile that bounces off Ryze's enemies in a quick motion, killing them effectively without needing an explosion. Ryze uses this in his cinematic to one-shot all those Navori bandits after he got stabbed and Sona healed him.
Rune Prison Ryze's signature ability, Rune Prison, is more of a hax then spell. You can't break through it unless you use magic, and even then it's extremly hard. Brand was not able to break out of it, and he is stated to be able to break Ryze's seals given enough time. The only one that managed to do it is Yago, who has been using a World Rune for years prior to his fight with Ryze, and even tho he didn't have the World Rune during the fight, his powers were grown massively from the years of World Rune usage.
Teleportation Ryze can teleport himself and others within a circle to a certain location. He was able to teleport into a Petricite Vault, which weaknesses magic around it. It is not instant however, and takes around 3-4 seconds to be performed.
Energy transfer Ryze uses this against his fight with the Voidborn in his cinematic. After overpowering the Voidborn's energy, Ryze 1 shots it. This is Ryze's most impressive feat for a couple of reasons:
- The Voidborn, based on his powers and size was at least mid-tier, and Voidborns have extremly high-durability.
- The explosion from his energy that killed the Voidborn made big cracks into the True Ice wall that was trapping it there. Granted, there were a few cracks before, but after the explosion many more appeared. Why do we know it's True Ice? If it wasn't True Ice, the Voidborn would have had no problems getting past it. The explosion also made the entire cave shake, with several base Nasus-sized rocks (yes I'm using Nasus as a measuring tool) falling from the top of the cave, and a crack in the floor big enough for light to enter the cave. Keep in mind that cave was very deep underground, because Voidborns and True Ice are found very deep underground, and also cause of this paragraph from the map:
Far beyond the known lands of Valoran, in the deepest, darkest spaces beneath the world, servants of the mythical Watchers are drawn to the power of the World Runes…
Disspelling magic Ryze is able to disspel charms, wards and enchantments, as seen in his comic.
Wards Ryze can put magical wards to defend a place. Those wards are capable of incinerating anyone who enters the area protected by them. They are also very hard to break, as Brand stated: "Shattering your wards always proves... tiresome."
So that was it. Leave your thoughs, questions and feedbacks below, as I plan to do more of these lists. The next one will be about Nasus, the Curator of Sands himself.
when you have the time? I feel like people underestimate just how powerful she is, now that she's been turned into a force of nature itself.
