All you had to do was add " The Bow was a Darkin"
and change his family to husband and adopted child.
There, you successfully added a confirmed homosexual champion and a new Darkin and nobodies lore had to be destroyed . Wasn't that hard.

Or.... All you had to do was add "The bow was a Darkin" (because Darkin are everything now a days).
And then you make a new character who is as gay as your heart desires. Then everybody is happy, especially the ones who would like both.
Or, if they felt so inclined to make a LBGT champion, perhaps they could have made a whole new champion... seriously, does everyone need a fucking representation in game these days? [zombie-brand-facepalm]
Another alternative could have been that he was married to his wife out of social pressure and had a child but then lived with his lover (Cuz lets face it, how many times has this happened IRL) and having all three dead, the mother of his child, his child, and his lover all dead, could have driven him to the point of seething rage and hate filled vengeance... and that the Darkin was trapped in the pool inside a bow as a vessel and whoever picked up the bow and willingly accepted the Darkin into them, would be able to tap the full powers of the bow.
Technically speaking he wouldn't be confirmed homosexual at that point, he would only be confirmed to not be heterosexual. Bisexual is still an option.
Then one of two things happens
Varus is powerful enough to resist the Darkin on his own (not likely) or he is consumed by the Darkin in short order (most likely). Notice how both options have been done Darkin wise
and change his family to husband and adopted child.

So what this is about...is VARUS himself valuing his family. But not saving them because of duty and THAT leading to his corruption?
That's the real problem at the core of this?
