Why do you think they are rivals?

I dont really see how they would conflict with one another- seeing how detached Bard was when Ionia was being invaded by Noxus.

Bard only cares if universal balance is at stake, so this means whatever Aatrox's motivations are they must make him considerable threat to universal balance

They uh...aren't. There's no indication Bard and Aatrox have ever met, know about each other, or are in any way rivals.
