How could the game lore be tied together?
So after Riot removed the league from league of legends and the Journal of Justice and replace it with Universe we now have much better stories that explain the world and characters, but at the same time the lore itself is all disconnected from the game itself and many champions lores do not intersect with other champions.
The challenge now, is how can the now much better written lore be tied back to the actual game we're playing?
What are your ideas?
And since I'm the OP I'll start:
One idea I had is to reinstate the League, just remove the whole god-like summoners to solve political disputes thing. Which didn't make sense for alot of reason mainly if you have the power to control and contain the most powerful beings in your universe why are using it to play games when you can just take over the universe? Plus it limits the story since the league effectively controls everything that happens so no one can really advance. Lucian can never kill Thresh and free his wife's soul since Thresh is property of the summoners and will live forever to torment Lucian forever.
So instead maybe the league is a game created by a Creator god. The creator god being so powerful doesn't like to interfere with mortal lives and wants to preserve minimal interference in the lives of the lesser gods so created the league as a way for them to solve their problems with each other on their own without its help so it doesn't have to, and as a proving ground for potential young gods, so they won't destroy Runeterra and to preserve free will. I know it sounds like the same thing, but I'm trying to work within the confines of the game.
The chief god watches over the league to make sure the games are played fairly and the rules are adhered to, someone steps out of line they are punished.
So if a void god had beef with Nagakaborous they can't just nuke Bilgewater from orbit, open a massive portal to the void, and kill Illaoi, they'd submit an official challenge to Nagakaborous in which they both select their champions and then have them fight in the Fields of Justice a plane separated from the mortal realm. The champions themselves still maintain their free will but are trapped until a resolution can be made. The winning god is allowed to exert their power and influence on Runeterra to a certain extent.
For participation the mortals are rewarded for their service as they are given greater prestige, favor, influence, and may even be personally gifted by their god. And perhaps one day they themselves may earn enough prestige to become a lesser god themselves.
This allows a diverse range of champions with different lores since they aren't bound by any earthly supreme authority and since the gods keep their influence down to a minimum outside the League for the most part Champions are free to live their lives until their time comes to be called.
