All joking aside about Aatrox and how Galio's a forgotten champion...I'm gonna be incredibly upset if he doesn't retain some of his gargoyle appearance.Kit changes I could live with,but if that's a 100% representation of what his new appearance is going to look like this isn't going to sit well with me.It looks far too much like some generic Paladin/Paragon of justice design.

Hoping it's just initial shock,but I have a bad feeling about this.Didn't they say they were going to stop with changing iconic things about a champion(Karma's fans come to mind).Galio's most recognizable aspects would be that he looks like a gargoyle,a well known type of stone creature meant to guard places which I suppose isn't much different from the golem type thing we see in the teaser.But If he's been changed to some paladin inspired golem just because someone on the art team didn't like Gargoyles,this is probably gonna be the final straw on whether or not I continue to buy skins in this game.

I bought the enchanted Galio skin a few years back because I like gargoyles and I enjoyed Galio's character.Never got to play him much on the rift but I enjoyed getting to play him in aram whenever he pops up.But if they go through with such a massive appearance change without regards to his current playerbase then I will be far less certain other skins I own,or buy in the future won't be affected.

I'm just hoping this is some "idealized" representation of Galio,and looks much different from what he actually is since it might unsettle the demacian population.In that he's actually some type of night creature,albeit one that is honorbound to protect demacia and it's citizens or something along those lines...but not holding my breath.

Well he does seem to be a winged humanoid.

Though I agree that he looks less like a Gargoyle and more like some angelic colossus,I guess they might have changed it to fit the designs of Demacia a bit more.

Who says a gargoyle has to be a hunchbacked, demonic draconid? He's a winged stone guardian, or something similar to stone - that is still a gargoyle.

This. The definition of a gargoyle isn't super well-defined anyway. "Winged stone construct with humanoid form" can definitely fit the bill.

The definition of a gargoyle is pretty much "stone statue fitted on to buildings to drain water from the rafters away from the masonry, usually designed in the form of a creature". There's plenty of ways to design a gargoyle.

Sure but considering Galio was initially made in the old lore to be a guardian protector in the image of a gargoyle, so he never truly was one. He just looked the part. That design was never integral to his purpose, if that makes sense. In fact, nothing about him being a gargoyle appearance wise actually mattered story wise. He could've been the stone statue of a man and very little would be different. Only one of his abilities ever made use of his gargoyle design (Righteous Gust) too, so really the thread tying him in to being a gargoyle was fairly flimsy.

Don't get me wrong I love Galio's gargoyle design and was thrown off by him being so not like a gargoyle now, but it's not difficult to see where Riot went concept wise; the thematic of a stone guardian and protector works without him being a gargoyle.

Actually Idol of Durand makes sense too for a gargoyle since most of the gargoyles are supposed to taunt (well their expressions on their faces makes me think so)

And he's not that much of a guardian since well he failed to keep Durand alive

I actually have no idea what made riot feel like he's not in need of staying a gargoyle because it was a really important part of his design to me at least but i'm pretty sure it's the same for most of galio mains, now he just feels like a whole new champ with just current galio's ult

Just to remember you they're changing everything in his kit except his ult, they're changing his lore, his splash art/look, his lines, and he ain't a gargoyle anymore, so i don't see how this is still galio Well I'm just hoping this is just a turret and not Galio since Galio'll probably have interactions with turrets

The problem with keeping the original design of Galio as a "Grotesque" (which is the more accurate architectural term for a statue like the current/old Galio , "Gargoyle" more specifically refers to Gothic drain outlets with a beastly style, as Sharjo stated) is that the use of Grotesques simply doesn't fit Demacia thematically. According to his current/old lore, Galio was created before the regulation of magic in Demacia forbade the creation of artificial life, not before Demacia itself. http://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_AU/story/champion/galio/ One must also keep in mind that this lore was created before the modern visions of Demacia's landscapes and culture, in fact, this lore also references a Yordle who I believe is meant to be Poppy before her rework. (as the Yordle is carrying a crown, not a hammer).
