I 100% understand why people are disappointed with these Pajama Star Guardian skins BUT if you look a little past this, two skin lines can greatly benefit from these "Variant Skin". Those two being "Pentakill" and "K/DA" since this gives an opportunity for new outfits and new music videos for both skin lines <3 (hopefully).

Edit: The pricing dropped to reasonable levels! The Pajama skins are now around 743 RP, as they should be for just a model swap if you own the originals.

It required less work than normal model change and less artwwkring and less brainstorming since it isn't even brand new model of brand new theme, it is still SG but with pajamas on. Except you can buy either one without the other, and doing so reduces the other skin price by almost half now.

I am, I wanted the skins to cost around 750, which is what the current lowest cost is for just a model swap, and that's what they reduced it down to.

This is every bit as epic as the Omega Squad skin line for example. Just because they share the same theme with another skin line doesn't make them any less of a skin line.

Tomoe Gozen1 votesSomething tells me you haven't been paying attention to what Riot's been saying. They have never said Star Guardians and Project skin lines are going to become yearly events. Pool Party was skipped last year in favor of this year.
The reason for this is because sometimes, there's not going to be reasonable content ready for the event and that it would feel as if Riot forced it to sell skins that didn't generate enough hype. The same thing happened with Gun Goddess Miss Fortune where Ultimate Skins deserve iteration for a longer period of time and figuring out how they would "reinvent" the lineup.
Expecting of Riot to run yearly events is just going to force their hand and rush content to "fit" it in a set schedule, which would lead to people complaining about unoriginality and making skins for the sake of making skins. And this set schedule would only get worse as years go by, if RIot decided to add more events in. Then we would realistically have months filled with just "events" with no breaks in between.

They did skip Star Guardian. This is a new content experiment. They picked those champions and the Star Guardians because they are popular, and they are hoping to gauge whether or not variant skins might be a feasible idea for the future. If you consider Prestige Edition Kai'Sa as the Alpha test, these are the Beta test for variation skins. It has the potential to be successful, they just need to reign in that absurd pricing paradigm they have for them.
Edit: And reign it in they did! 45% reduction instead of 30% reduction I feel puts the price where it needs to be.

I've not forgotten Blitz. The Lancer Blitz skins were released before they were even considering alternative versions as being a viability. I do think at some point that those two should be folded into the pricing structure though.

This doesn't oust the potential for a Star Guardian event for next year. Last year they skipped Pool Party and just gave some existing skins some chromas, but this year they came back with it. The same will probably hold true for Project and Star Guardian next year.

Are... are you kidding me? Riot has repeatedly stated that the pace of skin releases is limited by the lack of talented artists who are actually capable of doing this kind of work, and you want these people to spend their time on turning a handful of skins into an endless parade of slight tweaks rather than on creative, original work? You really can't wait to buy Widescreen Edition, Full Screen Edition, Director's Cut Edition, Deluxe Edition, Super Bonus Edition, 20th Anniversary Edition, etc.?

When did "i don't like it" become a point to disapprove of a skin line, based on a personal preference? Aside from a meme, SG Urgot would be a shit addition for League in general. And i wouldn't be caught dead buying that skin if it ever became a reality. But aside from my personal opinion, i wouldn't be mounting some kind of a point on the boards against Riot killing memes if i find them distasteful.
Like jesus, you don't like it, just move on with your life. You're not going to spend money on this and it's fine. As if the realistic expectation for anyone here to own every bit of content for every champion in this game...

I didn't get any SG skin but Poppy's so if I decide that the new MF/Soraka skin is a must have I can get them since I wasn't even tempted to get the originals and I didn't pay anything extra. Of course, I already have a Soraka skin the Dryad so in reality the only one for me personally that's tempting is the MF skin and I am undecided whether I like default MF or pajama MF better yet.

Being like bad DLC implies that you would have to buy the original product. Chromas are bad DLC, really - do you want your fancy 975 RP skin to have a different color? That's 520 RP more - and no, you can't skip buying on the base variant even if you'll never use it.
This is honestly what Chromas should have been in the first place; pick a base variant with no extra charge, then optionally get additional ones if you want to.

I dont, but lets say that Riot releases a new champion with a bad skin for the release... since it is the only option for a skin that it will exist in that moment, people will buy that new skin for the new champ... however, months after that, a "Variant" skin (that is way better) for that same new champion appears.
It is something that could happen in the future.

There are always some who will like it, but a "bad" skin, like one which clearly doesn't offer enough for the price will not sell as much as a good one. Besides, you don't have to own a skin to play a champion - for I don't like how Sand Wraith Pyke looks which simply means I'll be playing default Pyke for the time being.

I already own Star Guardian and bought it as soon as it came out. However, I don't know if I'm excited about the price though. I hope it isn't anymore than 720 RP because it is a skin variant and has a shared splash art.

I was ready to drop all my money on new SG skins and I was even gonna buy the Ezreal and Lux PJG skins until I realized what was happening.
DarkSoul19941 votesI mean, it depends on how many resources these Variants require as opposed to regular skins. My guess is that there's maybe 1 or 2 iterations of each of these variants that they go through before finalizing the skins whereas regular skins generally have ~10+.

These Pajama skins aren't taking up the slots that would have been actual Star Guardian skins. Those slots didn't exist this year. These are here so that the people that really like the Star Guardian Skin Line actually get some content this year. If variants weren't a thing now, people who liked star guardian would have received nothing this year.
. They're just begging for the skin.
